Earlier on Thursday I wrote regarding Defense Secretary Peter Hegseth’s first trip to Europe as secretary to meet with NATO allies and that it simply couldn’t have gone worse. Hegseth took Russia’s position at nearly every point, essentially handing the Russian government all Ukrainian territory currently under a Russian flag, saying that American values aren’t really a thing because they can’t get shot, and generally making a complete ass of himself in front of some of the world’s best, in large part because he’s just not that damned bright. This is one of the lower-wattage ones in the cabinet and he’s proven it. Little did I know that Hegseth still had some left in the tank. According to The Washington Post, the single least partisan (Supposedly) secretary went to the least partisan meeting (NATO) but did so by bringing one of the country’s most thoroughly whacked partisans. Leave it to Hegseth.
The Washington Post sets out some salient facts as to why it is just not a good thing to have a guy like Jack Posobiec around:
Trump administration officials at the Pentagon invited a far-right activist, Jack Posobiec, to participate in Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth’s first trip overseas, triggering alarm among U.S. defense officials worried about the military being dragged into partisan warfare.
News of Posobiec’s invitation circulated among U.S. officials in Washington and in Europe ahead of Hegseth’s visit this week to Germany, Belgium and Poland. Posobiec’s history of extreme rhetoric includes promoting the “Pizzagate” conspiracy theory that Democrats were running a satanic child-abuse ring.
So as I said above, these meetings should be some of the least partisan affairs this country attends in any given year. We are supposed to get along with progressive countries like Sweden and Germany, it is probably best to leave the hardcore MAGA conservatism behind and just be a great ally. Instead, the military is now forced to worry about how military leaders will look to their cohorts in other countries because Hegseth just cannot help himself.
And, again, this isn’t some normal guy. Posobiec is not just a nut but a dangerous one at that – not just willing to let democracy go but to give it an affirmative kick in the ass on the way out the door.
Last year, Posobiec’s speech at CPAC went viral. “Welcome to the end of democracy. We are here to overthrow it completely,” Posobiec said. “We didn’t get all the way there on Jan. 6, but we will endeavor to get rid of it.”
No word on exactly why he wants to get “rid of it” so badly. One presumes that he wouldn’t support AOC overthrowing the government and putting in a “leftist” utopia. So not sure why he believes he should be allowed to do so from the Right. But we used to have a name for people who would otherwise war against the Constitution, something about enemies, foreign and domestic. Peter took an oath to defend us from cats like that.
Instead, Hegseth takes the guy to NATO. As tempting as it is to just wave Hegseth away as inconsequential and someone who likely can’t do too much damage because he’ll never be allowed to get his hands deep into anything, do know that these meetings count. These are the times when those bonds form that can soothe over hurt feelings, lead to some more solid information/intelligence going from mid-level to mid-level folks – they matter (Or they wouldn’t hold them, these people are not into appearances). Thus it is that blowing one by appearing as an ass, whether through his own words as reported earlier, or deeds – as reported now, it is all bad.
The guy was never qualified, everyone knew he wasn’t qualified, no one really thought he would get through because he was so unqualified, no one until someone in the Trump camp threatened to cut nuts (Or something) over someone like Hegseth. Never mind that there are hundreds of just as loyal MAGA men who are infinitely more qualified. It just… defies all logic, kind of like Pizzagate itself.

Logic? Surely you jest. These nazis are stupid, conspiracy driven cult members. The last time this cult took power…it took 4 years, 400,000 dead boys, and more firepower than the average citizen can imagine to STOP THEM. Only a fool thinks they will honor anything but their lust for power and money. It’s been less than a month, and look what the child killers have already done, and with their cult put in cabinet positions…the savagery has only just begun. It amazes me how gullible comfortable people are.
Anyone who says that they want to overthrow democracy should either be in jail or put on a plane to Russia or China. No democracy in either place. And Nevertheless should need be in jail for sexual.assault. How much did he pay to get the cops and prosecutor to not file charges.
