Well, that headline pretty much says it all. Maybe we should move on. But wait, there’s more comedy to come out of what should have been a normal stump speech on a hot July day in an election year. There is no such thing as “normal” on the GOP side of the equation this year. Nor has there been since 2015. Because, you see, the GOP is irretrievably broken. The Democratic party is not. It is alive and healthy.

Our incumbent president made the hardest decision of his life last Sunday and he made it with elegance and grace. He defined statesmanship when he announced that he would be stepping aside to allow a younger generation to take the helm. Joe Biden’s decision and his subsequent eloquent speech last Wednesday, will go down in the annals of America rhetoric on a par with FDR’s declaration of war following Pearl Harbor.

And what of the other side of the aisle? Do we have a gracious gesture on the part of the 78-year-old candidate who talks about windmills, sharks, batteries, and cannibals, frequently in the same sentence? Of course not. Trump can’t stand down and pass the torch because he is literally running to run the country that he tried to overthrow when he ran it before because he’s running from the law. There is no sense of party in that, there is only the rampant selfishness of the snake that the GOP clutched to their collective bosom nine years ago and he’s been stinging the life out of them ever since.

No, Trump intends to take the GOP down, even as he goes down. And they are 100% complicit and onboard for that. Here’s what the latest conflagration looks and sounds like.

There’s that old expression, “Everything Trump Touches Dies.” It would seem it’s proving itself to be the case, once again. And this next one is priceless.

Trump is boiling it all down into simple terms these days: Vote for him and he’ll end all this election nonsense. He’ll protect all his minions and destroy all his detractors. The only problem with that, is that today’s minion might not be pure enough tomorrow. You remember that old poem that starts, “First they came for the Socialists, but I was not a Socialist and so I did nothing.” That’s exactly where this is going.

Trump is telling us all who he is. Let’s hope enough voters hear him and believe him to vote appropriately in November. The man is a danger to democracy. It’s not about Democrat v. Republican, it’s about America v. Trump.
