This is getting pretty far out there as scenarios go, but having seen what we’ve already seen in the past five, six years, who’s to say that this is too far fetched? A law professor informs us that Donald Trump could in fact be incarcerated for his crimes but maybe the GOP would still see fit to put him at the top of their ticket and he could get elected, while in the slammer, and then pardon himself. Seriously.
We’ve analyzed many theories about America’s 45th president. But as @mehdirhasan points out, @jentaub is our first guest to posit this scenario about prisoner/candidate Trump: pic.twitter.com/xNfA0fxXiC

As insane as so many of the parties to this scenario are, it’s not really that far fetched. You know that Trump would go for it, he’ll go for anything, and if he was in the dire straits of being in prison, a way out would be all he would seek. Plus, it would be great reality TV, right? And of course the cult would think it all fine and wonderful. They believe that their morally pristine cult god is incapable of any wrong, so if Trump would be convicted, of course it would be by a crooked judiciary.
Maybe it’s time for a constitutional amendment stating that in addition to being 35 years of age or older and born in the country, you need to be currently not incarcerated.
Or, there’s the other back door here: since Trump would likely be convicted of state charges, he couldn’t pardon himself from those and take office.
And let’s take the obvious shot here: While in prison, Trump could pen Mein Drumph.
Legally he *can’t* pardon himself. Also, as president, he can’t pardon for state (and lower-level) crimes.
And he won’t look like the picture, if he’s in prison.
Good Lord! If that scenario becomes reality, I’m going to move out of the country!
No. He wont be in prison before some time in 2027 or maybe 2028. Anything before the 2024 election is just wishful thinking.
To be fair, you can’t blame us for wishing it.
Do you think that Mr. BRIDGER (Trump) can run all of America from a prison cell?
Your car?
Pretty car!
