If you are looking for sheer idiocy on steroids you will find nothing better than the hearings going on in the House regarding the renaming of the Gulf Of Mexico. Why this is even under consideration when the budget looms unresolved, tariffs and supply chain interruptions are expected to wreak havoc with store shelves any day, Xmas and affordable toys are expected to dominate the fall and a plethora of other problems prevail — but the House wants to focus on a body of water which was named 500 years ago and which is just sitting there, not bothering anybody. Kudos to this one Democrat for nailing the sheer folly of this.

The tweet ends “to the Confederacy of Dunces” because that’s where this legislation is heading.” And miraculously it does get worse. Harriet Hageman, the sole Rep from Wyoming, apparently wants to protect California’s stake in the Gulf of Mexico? Huh?

If we just grant for the sake of argument that Mexico was doing such a thing, why does that come into a hearing on the Gulf of Mexico? Is the idea that we punish Mexico for any and everything by changing the Gulf’s name? So if it ships a bad bunch of pinatas to the U.S., to the middle of Kansas, let’s say, then we’re supposed to punish the Mexicans by renaming the Gulf?

I think Harriet needs to worry about Wyoming’s needs. Maybe worry that people are driving over the southern state line high, because majrijuana is legal in Colorado but not in Wyoming. Deal with that if that’s important. Maybe worry about the pig processing plants and the stirrup buckle factories. And hey, there was some strip mining in Johnson County, maybe check up on that. And how’s Devil’s Tower doing these days?

Somebody needs to muzzle Harriet. And Wyoming gave up Liz Cheney for this? Yes, they did. Hageman is lucky she lives in an age where Marge Greene, Lauren Boebert and Nancy Mace are normal, or Hageman would be the new Michelle Bachmann. At least the GOP of yore found Bachmann an embarrassment. Now they’ll probably welcome her back and hail her as a visionary.
