I’m still thinking about last night’s brouhaha in Congress that was supposed to focus on whether Merrick Garland should be held in contempt for refusing to turn over audio recordings of President Biden and Special Counsel Robert Hur. Which then got derailed by Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) who for some reason decided to attack Rep. Jasmine Crockett (D-Texas) on her appearance. Crockett, I might add, is very pretty, so perhaps someone was a little jealous.
This is typical for Greene, who recently claimed she wasn’t anti-Semitic but then said something anti-Semitic anyhow.
But her rancorous behavior Thursday night at the House Oversight and Accountability Committee rubbed lawmakers from both sides of the aisle the wrong way, The Hill reports. They were angry enough, in fact, that some described her behavior as “disgusting,” “embarrassing,” and a “middle school fight.”
Since Greene frequently causes a scene, you might think she’s accomplished something after she was sworn into office on January 3, 2021. And you’d be pretty much … wrong. Ol’ Marge has sponsored or co-sponsored 213 pieces of legislation, Newsweek reports. Of that, only four have become law. You’d think that would be embarrassing, but Greene seems incapable of being embarrassed. And of course, her effort to try and oust House Speaker Mike Johnson flopped, so there’s that too.
Of course, some folks might have been feeling a bit grouchy since the Oversight panel’s hearing was shifted to 8 p.m. EDT Thursday so that Republicans could go visit their Messiah, Donald Trump, to attend his trial earlier in the day.
Ranking Democratic Rep. Jamie Raskin said the situation deteriorated from there in what Democrats described as an alcohol-fueled hearing that of course derailed into a lengthy discussion about Greene’s remarks.
“you had a bunch of members who skipped legislative votes yesterday in order to go to Donald Trump’s trial,” Raskin said. “there was drinking going on in the hearing room on the Republican side. i don’t even want to imagine how much drinking was taking place on the train or up in new york.”
“And these members came back out of control. And the chairman did not rein them in, and the institution pays the price,” raskin told reporters in front of the capitol friday morning.
Raskin also wasn’t happy because these people “skipped legislative votes in order to go to Trump’s trial, and they came back jacked up on a lot of Trump-style animosity.”
Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) criticized the tone and silly squabbling of the lawmakers, without singling anyone out.
“It’s not a good look for congress,” he told reporters on friday. “decorum is an important principle to maintain.
Rep. Jasmine Crockett (D-Texas) inadvertently got the ball rolling in the first place by asking if Republicans “know what we’re here for” because the meeting had sidled into a discussion of Trump’s trial.
“i don’t think you know what you’re here for,” Greene retorted. “i think your fake eyelashes are messing up what you’re reading.”
But the surprising thing here is Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-Colo.) who isn’t particularly fond of Greene crossed the aisle and joined the Democrats voting alongside them to censure Greene’s comments.
She even apologized for the arguing.
“we’re just gonna lob insults at one another? i thought it was a gross waste of time,” she said Friday.
I never ever believed there’d be a time in my life when I agreed with Lauren Boebert, but she’s completely right here. And I loved Crockett’s well-deserved jab at Greene, whose comment was racist and completely out of place here. The Texas Congresswoman couldn’t resist asking if a hypothetical comment, which seemed like a definite jab at Greene, would break congressional protocol.
“I’m just curious, just to better understand your ruling,” Crockett said, referring to a ruling oversight chair james comer had made in response to greene’s remarks.
“if someone on this committee then starts talking about somebody’s bleach blond bad built butch body, that would not be engaging in personalities, correct?”
I think this was a perfect response to Greene’s over-inflated ego. I’ll never understand what she thinks she has to be proud of. She has obviously been largely ineffective on Capitol Hill. For all I know she might have gotten one or two more measures passed. The Newsweek story I cited above was written in January 2023. But despite all the noise she makes she simply has to be one of the most ineffective people in Congress.
I’d place bets on that.

Keep digging Margie……November and the new Dem majority in the House is less than 6 months away……Sure, you will be re-elected in your Hee-Haw themed district, but come January when the new Congress is seated, you will be censured, remobpved from any committees and quite expelled all together…..so please, enjoy your 15 minutes and keep digging.
Once expelled, that will give you a chance for that Addadictome you have always wanted.

Ms Crockett is beautiful. Three toes is ……. Not
Carol…agree…but you know racists can’t admit that unless they’re raping their slave girls. The horse’s ass from GA isn’t an attractive lady and I believe jealousy plays a part.
Jealousy and stupidity. Quite the combo for three toes, bobo, …
3 toes reminds me of a Russian athlete on steroids
