Let’s lead off with a little international news, shall we? Today wasn’t a very good day for Vlad the Imp over in Moscow. Once again, tens of thousands, if not hundreds of thousands of supporters of Putin arch critic Alexei Navalny took to the streets all over Russia. They marched, waved flags and banners, and signs, chanted, got in the faces of carefully places riot police, and made a general pain in the ass of themselves. Navaly, along with his close family members, as well as his top lieutenants are all already either in custody, or house arrest. That’s part of what is pissing off his supporters. There were again thousands of mass arrests, Russia being the 3,742nd smallest democracy in the world.
And now, back to local news on the home front. Do you know what happened in Washington DC today? A bunch of seditious, anti American, white supremacists held a rally and march through the streets of Washington DC today. That’s what happened.
I want you to think about this for a moment. It was only three weeks ago Wednesday, when a brazen, entitled, shit load of these very same far right white supremacy extremists charged the Capitol building in Washington, and held it hostage for six long hours. And thanks to a free and unbridled media, we know that the arrest total is climbing on a daily bases for those who took part in the attack.
Think about this for a minute. You can’t just walk into a city, any city, be it LA, Chicago, Phoenix, New York, or Washington DC, and start wandering around playing havoc with the traffic. You have to apply for permits, and in most cases you have to supply surety bonds to pay for any damage you do. Believe me, I tried to set up a march in Vegas for returning Iraq veterans, I know of which I speak.
All of which this group apparently did. And once those permits were requested, and the appropriate paperwork submitted, the permits were approved! Three weeks ago, these knuckle dragging morons, or their friends, invaded the Capitol building of the United States. Sweet Jesus, downtown Washington still looks like the fucking Green Zone in Bagdad, and yet the city issued the permits. And the march took place. Peacefully, and without incident.
Trump lost. The neo Nazi’s and the bedsheet bandits lost. The Loud Toys lost, and so did the Oath Seekers, and the 3%’ers, and all the rest of the flotsam and jetsam of a sick, twisted path. Three weeks ago, the attempted a violent coup d etat against the federal government of the United States. And today, three weeks later. that very same government issued them permits to wander around downtown Washington, spewing their filth. Kiss my ass. We WON!

I wouldn’t go so far as to say our democracy is strong and vibrant. Not by a long shot. It’s been through a mauling and survived the injures that sent it to the trauma center. Fortunately there was a skilled team on hand to get it though the critical moment and into the ICU stable vital signs. But the wounds are severe. Deep wounds that are infected. Fortunately there is highly skilled and experienced team led by an old, experienced hand to nurse it back to health. There will be complications, even setbacks during the recovery and the patient (our democracy) may well get rushed into the OR for additional, difficult and major surgeries. But the prognosis for survival and a return to a semblance of normal functioning is hopeful. There will be visible scars that will never go away. And the lasting effects that might linger on for years or even decades that cause not just pain but limited function at times are unknown but likely to pop up. But for now, we’ve got the best team of “doctors” we can hope for working on the case with more support on the way. I’m grateful in ways I can’t express that’s the case.
And having been exposed to the virus of Trumpism and survived, our job is to make the antibodies to resist it so strong, it never gets a chance again.
