This was always a matter of when, not if. It finally happened today. A United States citizen was shot by ICE and now the 37-year-old woman who was attending an ICE protest is dead. The Mayor of Minneapolis, Jacob Frey, is livid, understandably. “We do not want you here. Your stated reason for being in this city is to create some kind of safety, and you are doing exactly the opposite,” Mayor Frey continued. “People are being hurt. Families are being ripped apart. Long-term Minneapolis residents that have contributed so greatly to our city, to our culture, to our economy are being terrorized, and now somebody is dead, that’s on you, and it’s also on you to leave.” Daily Beast:
“We’ve dreaded this moment since the early stages of this ice presence in Minneapolis. Not only is this a concern that we’ve had internally, we’ve been talking about, they are not here to cause safety in the city,” Frey said.
“What they are doing is not to provide safety in America– What they are doing is causing chaos and distrust,” he continued.
Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem has maintained that the woman was trying to run agents over with her car. Eyewitnesses have said that what actually happened does not support the secretary’s claim.
The slain driver’s identity has not been released. But Minneapolis City Council member Jason Chavez told ABC News she was a U.S. citizen who “was an observer” and was “watching out for our immigrant neighbors.”
Leave it to the puppy killer to be lying about the events of the day. This is a tragic day in America, not just because a trigger-happy ICE agent killed somebody but because the woman was at a peaceful protest. It is chilling that Americans can be shot at a protest. And that’s grossly understating it.
I was about to start writing my own article on this, then saw the video of the actual shooting on MSNBC. Then some stuff came up but I was fearful of getting too far out over my skis and decided to look for more video. Specifically from some of the coverage there was a question about whether an ICE agent(s) might have been in the path of the vehicle which was driving AWAY when the murdering ICE agent opened fire through the open driver’s side window.
Maybe I’ll go ahead and make my own post on the matter. I found two videos on YouTube, one of which includes the actual murder (and without sound to distract you) and one from an eyewitness who gives a calm and detailed accounting which comports with the video of the shooting.
