Is there a body language doctor in the house? I would truly love to consult with an individual with those credentials and get an expert opinion. This is worthy of analysis. Garth Brooks and his wife Trisha Yearwood performed the music at Rosalynn Carter’s memorial Monday. As well you know by now, Melania Trump decided to attend and naturally she had to make herself stand out in her grey coat.
Two new thoughts on that: it’s not the color of the coat that’s so much out of sorts by why in the world is she even wearing a coat? if you look at the rest of the attendees, the gentleman are wearing suits — no top coats, just suits — and the ladies are wearing dresses or pantsuits. Laura Bush and Dr. Jill Biden both look quite comfortable in their dresses, Hillary Clinton and Michelle Obama are wearing pantsuits, as is Kamala Harris. Only Melania is bundled up in a bulky overcoat. Why, to provide an extra layer of protection against bad vibes? You know, maybe that’s a good idea. Click the video in the bottom tweet.

Ladies and gentlemen, you have seen the word “perfunctory” perfectly demonstrated. If your kid or grandkid ever asks you, “what does perfunctory mean?” you need only reply, “Garth Brooks and Melania Trump.”
The Brooks and the Carters go back a bit.
Garth Brooks and Tricia Yearwood sang at Former First Lady Rosalynn Carter’s service.
The couple worked with the Carters on several Habitat For Humanity homes!

Now this I completely relate to. 100%. The first election of which I was conscious was the 1960 election between JFK and Tricky Dick. I was seven years old. The previous election, 1956, I was only three, so I have no recollection. I was born on the last day of Harry Truman’s term of office and I pray to live to see Donald Trump buried. And I don’t wish him an early demise. No, quite the contrary, I would like to see him live many years in prison, but I probably won’t get that satisfaction. But just to see him gone off the face of the earth, and the world become a better place once he’s not in it, would be the perfect bookend for my life. I guess we’ll see whether I get that dream or not.

There you have the entire picture of American politics for the past 65 years or so completely encapsulated in two images.
As a child, obviously I thought the Eisenhowers and then Jack and Jackie Kennedy were normal and what a President and First Lady should be. The freak show of Trump was beyond my wildest imagination and frankly, I’ve always been grateful that my parents and many elder friends of mine from the WWII generation didn’t live to see this travesty. I did have one friend from that generation who died in 2017 at the age of 97. She survived five months of Trump and quite frankly, I have oft wondered if watching the madness in D.C. didn’t contribute to her demise. This was a woman who grew up during the Depression and Hoover.
Some other comments of note.

All that Melania Trump did in the White House was rip out the Rose Garden. Oh, excuse me, she also did a photo op with a refurbished tennis pavilion and then mis-spelled pavilion in a tweet. That and the fawking Creesmuss trees complete the picture.
This is choice.

This is classic. There’s a reaction shot of Melania at the end.

And Melania’s former BFF takes a shot. Here’s the rest of the tweet that’s cut off. “handling her apprarance with dignity and humility, she used it as a cat walk. Rosalynn Carter, is a national treasure who exemplified a life of humanitarian service with a spirit of generosity, dignity and compassion for all of God’s children. May she rest in peace.”
Melania Trump knew every time she made a public appearance, “a picture would be worth a thousand words.”
In Melania’s case, the picture would have to do all the talking. This time is no different!@MELANIATRUMP

I applaud Rosalynn Carter’s generosity of spirit in wanting to include Melania but frankly I wonder if she just should have not bothered. And at least Donald Trump chose not to sully the occasion. That’s a blessing.

Well, wasn’t the service in Georgia? Donald’s got a few issues there that might’ve made it difficult to leave the state.
Here come the judge!
Ms Big M is just a paraded cog in Don Don’s ’Big Bullsh*t Fountain’ facade, irrespective of how gaudy, tacky, inappropriate, or in this case solemn, the circumstances the parade takes place in. It’s ultimately all about Don Don. So, lets see how expertly Don Don, and, by extension, his circle – a pasquinade of New York’s social elite and Washington’s political elite – are lampooned in The Big Rock Candy Mountains (Donald Trump Song Parody) song. See:
I’d never seen this video before. Thanks! It’s gotten my morning off to a fun start.
I know just where you’re coming from when it comes to our parent’s generation mostly being dead and buried before Trump came along. Regardless of political Party almost all of them would be both horrified and disgusted by Trump and what we’ve become.
Having said that I’ve talked before about my dad and what is still the most frightening moment of my life. (And I’ve been in more “How the hell did I not DIE” situations/moments than I care to remember) He predicted we’d get to where we are, and worse. He was blunt and I could see how dead serious he was when (foreseeing the election of Reagan as that campaign was taking shape) he told me I’d live out my life under a different form of government. It IS frightening to think just how close we came on January 6 to that prophecy becoming true. And we are far from out of the woods. It will I think take a generation if not more to get us back to the guardrails being solid again. IF we can hold the line next year and get some more breathing room to shore them up. But a lot of work will still need to be done to build stronger ones.
I wouldn’t be too hard on Melania THIS TIME. I read an article yesterday that declared i was Rosalynn who reached out to her and the Carter Center’s request from the Carters that in the event of a death, Melania be invited. And so, her presence, whatever we think of Melania, was a response the the kindness and grace of Rosalynn Carter.
Not wearing black, was deliberate & disrespectful Personally, I would’ve never invited her. But this 1st lady, was a true Christian. The Carter’s Legacy will live on. BTW, I’ve always been a “fan” of Garth Brooks & his wife….Patriotic & progressive! “Last Dance” is one of my favorites, really chokes me up.
Here’s the Bizarro World truth: Melania was wearing a black dress under the coat. All she had to do was take off the damn coat. And nobody else was wearing a coat, so it’s not like a coat was needed.
I think that some impulse that maybe even she has trouble controlling made her keep the coat on and stick out like a sore thumb. She wore a dress to the GOP convention that was literally psychedelic green so that she would stand out. And remember those bizarre costumes in England. That yellow thing with about nine yards of fabric you could have re-upholstered a couch with it? She HAS to catch the eye. She doesn’t exist otherwise. That’s why she dresses so flashy and weird.
Here, a tweed coat wasn’t flashy, it was just inappropriate. But she can’t fit in. If she’s not the center of attention then she doesn’t exist. She’s got an interesting psychology. And she and Trump are a perfect match.
I deeply and to the profundity of my soul appreciate your dream to live long enough to see TFG 6 feet under, Ursula. I empathise so fully because I too have such a yearning for something as precious to me and as deeply unattainable – The Montreal Canadiens winning the Cup one more time before I “off this mortal coil”!!!
And I’m 10 years younger than you!!!!!
Maybe we both have our dreams, Bryan.
Could you imagine tRump giving a eulogy?
Twenty seconds in he would be bitching about Jack Smith and how he’s polling higher than Obama in the presidential race.
That’s pretty much what happened at his father’s funeral. He got up and talked about himself.
Yes, melania is tacky/trashy. period. What else would marry mushroom pee-pee? Why did she and that husband of hers have to even show up at a service honoring such a wonderful woman? I’ve said it before, nobody would have noticed they weren’t there nor would anyone miss them. That is the shame of the entire thing: they showed up and by their very trashiness, made a memorial service for a Great Lady less than it could and should have been. Thankfully, neither spoke at the event. Count our blessings for that I guess.
Well, Rosalynn will be remembered for all the good she did in life-and it was a copious amount of good. I suspect nobody will remember melania and forgetting her husband would be a very good, if unlikely, thing.
