As disappointed as I am in Fox News settling with Dominion, and as much as I was looking forward to the Fox News “talent” up on the witness stand, there is a lot of good to come out of this settlement.
$787.5 million is a lot of cash. A whole lot of cash. If that doesn’t deter Newsmax, OANN, RSBN and all the rest of them from making things up out of whole cloth, then I don’t know what will.
Plus, let us remember that Smartmatic is yet to bring suit. That will need to be settled. And don’t forget the Special Master. The worst case is that “the Special Master has free reign to take depositions and on Fox’s dime,” according to the expert you will listen to now.
The Special Master may uncover “who actually knew and whether this was being done deliberately.” That is a very good thing.
Plus, there may be some kind of an apology in the offing, from Fox News hosts, as you just heard. That would be interesting.
Fox settled for half the money demanded, plus don’t forget Smartmatic’s suit. At the end of the day, Fox may indeed be out $1.6 billion or possibly more. But they’re still in business and if they can spin it the right way to their audience, they will stay in business.
But I am certain that they will not pull this kind of a stunt again. That’s a lot of money to lose for following the audience down the rabbit hole into the unreality that they wanted to be true.Â

I admire your optimism, Ursula, but I just can’t rise to the occasion. As far as I have heard, Faux is still LYING ON AIR!
This won’t hurt Fox. It’s a giant tax write off for them and unless the agreement includes them speaking the truth to their viewers, they won’t. We all know their viewers don’t watch or read any real news so they’ll remain ignorant. Besides, they’re still lying on a daily basis. I’m so disappointed.
Punative damages are not deductable, but compensatory are.
Well, one can only hope, but I’m afraid this settlement lets Fox off the hook. Our pipe dreams of all the dirty laundry (that hasn’t already been) aired, and whatever the final outcome may have been in terms of demanding their admission of whole cloth b.s. are now in a state of limbo and while they may tone down their outright lies and fabrications, we will now enter into an era where we’re back to dog whistles and wink, wink, nod, nod intimations which will ease the anxiety of those who were almost forced into admitting they’d been duped and lied to and will be, once again be forging ahead with their deep state fantasies et.al. Sad – just sad. Opportunity is gone but I guess that’s what we get for believing anyone will ever hold these people accountable to the degree necessary to effect a national consciousness course change back to reality.

Truth? What price truth? It is becoming a more precious commodity in US day by day and a free, honest society cannot survive without people acknowledging and respecting it. It needed the Liars in Chief like Carlson and Hannity to have to own up in court. Only then might a portion of their delusional, hoodwinked audience come to their senses and realize how outrageously they have been fooled. Because they are not learning about it from Fox — not even now.
It’s nothing. Murdoch has insurance for this type of claim and plenty of $$ otherwise. No one is out a nickle. The Fux followers don’t care. They don’t get that Dominion won because what Dominion said was true. To the followers it’s the deep state attacking Fox. Fox apologizing. Fox admitting that Biden won the 2020 election. Fox stating that they misled their folks won’t happen because they know they’ll lose followers. I don’t blame Dominion but hell…..what a delight it would have been having mother tucker on the stand, etc.

I personally was very upset by the way the whole thing went down. The way it looks is that the whole thing was about money, not the factvthat FOX bald faced lied to the people who watch them. In my mind these people are not only guilty of lieing about the Dominion machines, they also lied about the election being stolen from Trump, and there’s no telling how many people they caused to loose their lives because of their rhetoric about covid. This station is just plain bad for America
Do they have to.make an on-air and in print for the NY Post, actual apology? I thought they just vaguely muttered under their corporate breath that yeah, those findings of fact that they lied about were, indeed, lies spread by employees who knew they were lying for ratings, and laughed about it among themselves. Unless they ate forced to air a long segment stating exactly what they lied about, the Trump fans won’t believe it-&and maybe not even then.
Only reason Fox caved is they knew they would lose if it went to a NY jury.
