Ewpsie. Yet another example of people who don’t think before they talk. At least I can go look over my writing to make sure it’s okay. I don’t talk about it, though. Anyone who asks what I’m doing, I tell them “I write for a political blog” and leave it at that. But this guy? Dyaaamn. He’s another one who shot himself in the gut, even though he’s apparently not a Republican specifically. Conceited much? Thank you, Raw Story:

A former staffer at Elon Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency, or DOGE, raised eyebrows on Thursday after analysts viewed his “arrogantdeposition tape. Nathan Cavanaugh, an ex-DOGE staffer, was deposed as part of a lawsuit filed by the American Council of Learned Societies, the American Historical Association, and the Modern Language Association challenging the agency’s use of ChatGPT to identify and cancel grants supporting Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, or DEI, programs.

Well, there’s news to me. I had no idea they were using AI with the waste bla bla, bla reason. That was bogus from the get-go. You don’t need a bunch of kids. You need people with knowledge of the way things should work. You need someone who knows what to look for. Using AI as a shortcut is not helpful. The field is still too new to use for something like this. They’re not nearly advanced enough. And as we have seen, things can go dreadfully wrong with AI.

During the deposition, Cavanaugh admitted to sending himself files through his personal channels and on Signal to bypass government data control regulations. He also struggled to outline a framework for identifying alleged DEI grants beyond the broad Executive Order that President Donald Trump signed earlier last year. A video of Cavanaugh’s deposition raised eyebrows among political analysts and observers.

Sending files to himself (we don’t know what they were), using Signal, bypassing government regs. What is so, so wrong with this picture? He used AI but couldn’t explain *how* he did? How many more of these yahoos did something similar? Not to mention, how much did Elon grab? There is all sorts of sensitive information that someone could have copied. Doesn’t that make you feel good? Me, neither.

Oh, look, a felony,” Jay Mallow, a retired Marine, posted on X. //// “Arrogant punk,” conservative political commentator Bryan McGrath posted on X. //// “This is how DOGE was conducting its work,” political commentator Tom Santos posted on X, //// “Understand, all you people in the Trump administration, you’re gonna be in that chair, and others, in depositions and courtrooms, for years,” military veteran John Jackson posted on X.

“Jack Teixeira [was] sentenced to 15 years on federal charges for exactly that,” political commentator Mykhaïlo Golub posted on X. //// “God—-, this gorgeous airhead could’ve had such a beautiful life as some intelligent, successful person’s trophy husband, but instead he let Elon convince him that he wasn’t as dumb as a box of rocks, and got him to break the law for him,” Sam Donovan, a former “Project Runway” contestant, posted on X.

This is why we have laws, regulations, all the stuff that’s occasionally annoying, but still worth it. This bozo said he was looking at grants. So, how much does he have of people’s and institutional data? It’s likely that any number of folks would be willing to pay some good money for that. No warm, fuzzy feelings of confidence for me here. Yet another example of Trump-associated stupidity. As a side note, he was in agriculture. So what’s new with you?

See you soon!

Friends, I know everyone begs you for money. I promise that among all those asking for spare change, we are the smallest and the hardest-working. We’re a group of old, disabled people, except for one writer in his mid-50s. The rest of us are in our sixties and seventies, and this is a labor of love. All we’re asking for is the chance to keep telling the truth about Trump and help ensure democracy survives. If you can help, please do. Thank you. Ursula

  1. i guarantee you elon grabbed everything. he has the resources to store government-sized quantities of data and to have people analize it to get what he’s interested in. there was reason to believe from the start that he grabbed all social security records. that’s all basic personal info plus every penny youearned and paid in taxes broken down by category, where you worked and what you did etc. he no doubt has everything else as well and i mean everything. knowledge is power and all knowledge is all power if you can figure out what to do with it which is questionable in musk’s case. there lies our hope.

    • Heh. I was trying to give him the benefit of the doubt, but I should have known better. You are absolutely correct, and he took everything he could get his hands on. But as you said, there’s still a ray of hope because he doesn’t seem to know what to do with it. Maybe he gloats over it in private like Scrooge McDuck with his money.
