Attorney General Merrick Garland had better have Special Counsel Jack Smith put the hammer down if he doesn’t want to come in 2nd place. Because Fulton County DA Fani Willis is one step away from the finish line.
The 8-month term of the Special Grand Jury in Fulton County is over. They turned in their final report today to the state’s Chief Judge, as well as DA Fani Willis, disbanded, and went home for a 2 hour shower to get the stink off, and a couple of tall, cold ones. The ball is now totally in DA Willis’s capable hands.
There is still one bit of suspense left. In their final report, the special grand jury strongly urged that their final report be made public. There is a hearing scheduled before the Chief judge for two weeks from today to argue and decide the issue. My bet is he pulls a King Solomon and cuts the baby in half. What the DA wants released, he’ll release. What she wants to keep from tipping to the defense, he’ll keep sealed.
From where I’m sitting, it’s all over but the timing and the shouting. It’s simple logic. No District Attorney spends 8 months in a high profile grand jury investigation if he or she doesn’t expect to return true bills of indictment at the end of it. And now she has an open field. She can empanel a new grand jury tomorrow if she likes, have them read the necessary transcripts, or show them the taped testimony from the special grand jury, and ask them to return true bills of indictment. Which they will.
Let’s be clear here. There are no surprises for Willis in the final report the special grand jury released today. Either Willis herself or s trusted staff member was in the grand jury room for every word of testimony. I’m sure that Willis will read the final report, but it’s kind of like having a M*A*S*H* marathon on a lazy Sunday.
Donald John Trump is about to become a criminal defendant. And yeah, yeah, I know, if the state of Georgia moves to extradite Traitor Tot to Georgia, Ron Pissantis has to sign off on it. But considering the fact that the Mango Messiah currently stands between Pissantis and a presumably clean run in the primaries, you think he might not want to have The Trumpster Fire out of the picture, and his hair?
And FrankenTrump isn’t the only one who had better be seriously considering his alternatives. After all, Trump is a duck in a barrel. His phone call to Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger was a prima facie attempt to subvert the actual totals of the vote count, and fraudulently swing the numbers his way. And you think Willis had inner circle members in front of the grand jury that confirmed that Trump had made statements and admissions in the days before the phone call showing he knew he had lost the election?
But it isn’t just Trump at risk. Because indications are that Willis is going to use the state’s rather expansive RICOÂ Statute to prosecute the case. And if I’m Mark Meadows or Leningrad Lindsey Graham, I’m starting to think that maybe Uruguay looks pretty good at this time of year. Because Graham made an intrusive phone call to Raffensperger, challenging the validity of the signatures on absentee ballots, and Meadows made a road trip down to supervise vote counting in Fulton County, and bitch about mail in ballots. And let’s not forget the inestimable Rudy Drooliani, who made at least one trip to push the GA GOP House caucus to push a fake slate of electors, bringing Trump in by phone.
And just like in a 2 AM schlock TV commercial but wait! There’s more! Willis also has all 11 of the potential fake electors in her sights, so they’d better be speed dialing qualified criminal defense lawyers. But one of them will have to be handed off to another assistant DA, since a judge found that Willis had a conflict of interest, since she had hosted a fundraising cocktail party for his opponent in the last election.
I can’t see any reason why this should take very long. After all, Willis isn’t putting together a case, she’s been presenting it piece by piece to the grand jury for 8 months now. All she has to do is to empanel a new, normal grand jury, present the necessary evidence, and ask for the indictments. Patience, Grasshopper.

I think it probably has varied. I’m pretty sure four decades (or so) ago when they came to the university town near where I grew up the “Generals” were from Jersey but whatever. Now that I think about it though the performance by the Globetrotters’ opponents was as hapless as that of the football team Dan Snyder still (incredibly) owns!
Death Sentence refusing to sign off on extradition papers would not be great optics ahead of a prez run particularly if you’ve been pretending to be all about law and order. He’s got to know dems would make hay out of it. Also, it would have the effect of removing trump from the prez picture.
He won’t allow it, bad optics since he needs a portion at least of those voters.
I was on a grand jury once. Over a three-month period, we heard testimony from witnesses regarding some shady goings on at a charity. Feom our perspective and understanding of the law as presented, we returned a true bill of indictment when the state’s attorney presented it to us.
Fani Willis should be the US AG and get that limp-dick Garland out.
Maybe we’ll get stuff done.
I doubt that any of them – Garland, Smith, or Willis are seeing this as a horse race or a contest. Tat’s something the media do. (IANAL, let alone a prosecutor, but if I were in Smith’s place I thik I’d be delighted if Willis could lock him up fpr a while – it would take hisloud )mouth out of the game and make ny investigations easier.)
