The hits just keep coming – the petty little ones, that is. The FCC Chair is doing something else that’s ridiculous and definitely politically motivated. Again, just when we think it can’t get any worse, it does. This lapdog must stand up for his lord and master and whatever he wants. You can’t put anything in public that’s bad about Trump and his War, y’know. But especially anything bad about Trump. With gratitude to Raw Story:

Brendan Carr, chair of the Federal Communications Commission under President Donald Trump, issued a stark warning to television broadcasters on Saturday, threatening license revocation for what he characterizes as “hoaxes and news distortions.” In a statement, Carr declared: “Broadcasters that are running hoaxes and news distortions – also known as the fake news – have a chance now to correct course before their license renewals come up. The law is clear. Broadcasters must operate in the public interest, and they will lose their licenses if they do not.”

Oh, brother. Support Trump or go off the air. What a bunch of crap. Pretty soon, it’s going to be up to independent news media like us to get the *real* stories out to the American people. How low the US has fallen. Mainstream media is to the point where it has its tail between its legs and will do what it’s told. That’s sad. I wonder what will happen when we have a Democratic president, if we last that long. If we keep voting free and fair. If our country doesn’t turn into an actual dictatorship. If, if, if.

Carr cited declining trust in legacy media, noting that “trust in legacy media has now fallen to an all-time low of just 9% and is a ratings disaster.” He argued that broadcasters have been subsidized through free access to the nation’s airwaves and suggested that changing editorial direction is in their business interests.

Subsidized free airwaves, huh? That’s a contradiction in terms. If they’re free, they’re not being subsidized by anyone except their audience watching. Do you think we could get him to say that again in a language that makes sense? Because right now he certainly isn’t making sense. Or is that just a hallmark of the position and the Trump maladministration?

The FCC chief framed the issue as a matter of public confidence, stating: “When a political candidate is able to win a landslide election victory in the face of hoaxes and distortions, there is something very wrong. It means the public has lost faith and confidence in the media.” Carr concluded by calling for systemic change in broadcast journalism, declaring “Time for change!” His comments represent an unprecedented direct threat by a Trump administration official to use regulatory authority over media licensing as a tool to influence news coverage.

Stop right there. Trump did not win by a landslide, not even close. We know better. Hoaxes and distortions come *from* Trump. *We* look for the truth, no matter how ugly it is. Some things are never pretty, but we have to deal with them if they’re true. Trump is a moron is true. We don’t *like* Trump, but he’s the president, for now. That’s ugly. And it’s true. The Blue Wave is rolling across the states. And *that* is a good truth.

See you soon!

Friends, I know everyone begs you for money. I promise that among all those asking for spare change, we are the smallest and the hardest-working. We’re a group of old, disabled people, except for one writer in his mid-50s. The rest of us are in our sixties and seventies, and this is a labor of love. All we’re asking for is the chance to keep telling the truth about Trump and help ensure democracy survives. If you can help, please do. Thank you. Ursula

  1. I think independent media has already surpassed legacy media (I refuse to call them “mainstream”). Their audience is dying off and with the mega-rich buying them up, they can no longer be relied upon to provide factual information.

    • Hey now, that’s an interesting point! I’m going to really have to think about this for awhile. Good to have you commenting again!
