I wonder what’s up with this? This is some kind of a double entendre that I fully expect Donald Trump to spin around in some fashion that benefit himself (his raison d’etre, benefitting himself) but the fact of the matter is, that there’s no irony left in Trump world. He killed irony over and over again. Bludgeoned it, in fact. So I think this is going to bounce off of MAGA.
Although he will expect them to foot the bill, ultimately. Trump’s legal fees are through the roof and the judgments are stacking up like airplanes over a Black Star airport. He’s long overdue for a major crash. Meanwhile, to avert same, Trump holds out a ray of hope for an appeal of the $83.3 million judgment rendered in the E. Jean Carroll matter.
“I am in the process, along with my team, of interviewing various law firms to represent me in an Appeal of one of the most ridiculous and unfair Witch Hunts our Country has ever seen – The defamation Sham presided over by a Clinton appointed, highly partisan, Trump Hating Judge, Lewis Kaplan, who was, together with certain other Radical Left Democrat Judges, one of the most partisan and out of control activists that I have ever appeared before,” Trump said.
He then added:
“He was a ‘bully’ who demanded two trials, rather than one, denied me Due Process, would not allow me to put forth vital evidence (of which there was much!), and only allowed me to be on the witness stand for minutes, telling my lawyer what to ask, and telling me to only give one word answers, as his wife and friends sat in cordoned off front row seats watching with glee.”
Trump also added, “This entire HOAX is a disgrace to our American System of Justice. Any lawyer who takes a TRUMP CASE is either ‘CRAZY,’ or a TRUE AMERICAN PATRIOT. I will make my decision soon!”
We don’t know who he’s talking to but it’s pretty plain that the major decision making will be on the part of counsel, not on the part of Trump. First of all, any lawyer he hires has to find a reversible error in the transcript. Good luck with that. Alina Habba was too busy playing to the cameras and the peanut gallery to be doing a lawyering job. She kept admitting everything into evidence with “no objection,” which is not how you preserve your rights to appeal.
So Trump is undoubtedly having this explained to him. And then there’s the issue of money and that will come up front. Better get the fundraising emails out there, Donald. The MAGAs are going to have to sacrifice this month. Maybe they could start fasting and be able to send their grocery money to you. It’s the very least that they can do, right?
At least the illusion that Habba is going to do the appeal is shattered. You recall her boast the other day that she had a “perfect record” for an appeal, “not that I need one.” That’s the kind of pompous crack that makes real lawyers cringe and others — the ones who do the work — have nightmares.
Let’s see if Trump finds a lawyer to take the case. Maybe he could get a two-for-one deal, since Judge Engoron is slated to reveal his verdict publicly on Wednesday. Trump will unquestionably want to appeal that as well.
You need a scorecard to keep all the trials and appeals straight, truly you do. And if you combine them all with a campaign calendar, then it’s truly banana bonkers batshit.
Did anyone try to explain to him that committing any offence and being found ‘guilty’ doesn’t mean you can’t be up in court again for continuing to commit the same offence?
Next thing will be his claiming that, if he’s found guilty of fraud that will allow him to do the same thing all over again and can’t be touched
Many comments I’ve read elsewhere point out that thanks to tRumpy more American citizens have learned more about the REAL practice of the law than they ever knew before. By following his travails and trials they have determined for the first time how things really work. Law & Order was just a warmup. IANAL but… is becoming a real catch phrase now. Now that they are beginning to learn how the real justice system works, and that it’s more than just the “court of public opinion” and Alina and tRumpy preening in front of cameras, but requires real evidence, their eyes are opening to true malignancy that tRump represents. Reading actual filings and briefs is eye opening. As denis wrote yesterday in his excellent post, E. Jean has restored pride, for all of us. Keep up the good work, PZ and all the anti-tRumpy attorneys.
If the judge had been a bully, he wasn’t but if he had been, it would only be what dingleberry has earned over all these years.
Often, here and on D.K., I see the statement “the cruelty is the point”. Kind of a mantra for magats. Well magats, dingleberry is going to put his greedy little hands out for more of your money for HIS defamation of a lady after having been found guilty of sexual assault–you know, for cruelty as it were. Now he will relieve you of your money and you know you’ll give it to the sorry son of a b*tch. Please remember as you are giving money you likely cannot afford-the cruelty is the point. Remember that when you cannot pay your bills, buy necessities, when you have to decide between prescriptions and heat/A.C., etc. Cruelty, magats, is the point and cruelty cannot distinguish anything or anyone from another.
All I can hope for is that there is a lesson here eventually the magats might learn.
