Europe has prepared for this. Surprise! There are a number of countries that are not going to lie down and take the ridiculous tariffs that the Mango Mandarin is going to set in place tomorrow. He says any place that imposes taxes and/or tariffs on US goods will have retaliatory tariffs placed on them, to take effect “immediately”.  He thinks that tariffs make him strong. He thinks that tariffs will bring money into the United States. He thinks that tariffs make him powerful – except they don’t. They bring higher costs for the consumer. They seem to be increasing inflation. He has promised reciprocal tariffs, matching dollar for dollar. Europe has had enough of the erratic Traitor Tot. And they are not the only ones.

European President Ursula von der Leydon advised that Europe does not want this. They did not start this. They do not want to retaliate. But if necessary, they have a strong plan to retaliate and will do so if necessary. Europe is open to negotiations. They are better and more gracious than we are. I’m not sure tRump knows what that word means. “We will approach these negotiations from a position of strength. Europe holds a lot of cards, from trade to technology to the size of our market,” she continued. “But this strength is also built on our readiness to take firm countermeasures if necessary. All instruments are on the table.” She did not provide any further details on how Europe would retaliate, but they have already “walked the talk” in response to tRump’s tariffs on aluminum and steel. “In February, von der Leyen emphasized the importance of the US-EU trading relationship. “The whole trade volume between us is $1.5 trillion,” she said in a speech, also noting that 1 million American jobs depended directly on trade with Europe.”

And guess what!? Canada and Asian countries are ready to retaliate, too. Canada tariffs and loss of products will put us into some big hurt, as an example,  just with the electricity they provide to a handful of states. Please see the below press release.

In a statement Friday, Carney’s office said Canada planned to implement retaliatory tariffs on US goods this week in response to Trump’s promised import taxes. But Carney offered no specifics – such as timing or the scope of the retaliatory tariffs. “The Prime Minister informed the President that his government will implement retaliatory tariffs to protect Canadian workers and our economy, following the announcement of additional US trade actions on April 2, 2025,” the Prime Minister’s Office said in a press release.

And also: “The three Asian countries – China, South Korea, and Japan –  plan to announce retaliatory tariffs in lockstep, Chinese state broadcaster CCTV said Monday. They held economic talks Sunday for the first time in five years, vowing to bolster fair trade and strengthen economic ties among them, just days before the US is set to announce sweeping tariffs on all trading partners.”  We really don’t like our allies teaming up with China

El Presidente Imbécil would be wise to sit up and notice. I doubt he will. But it will be fun to think about what his “face” will look like when those retaliatory tariffs hit. These people “ain’t” playing and will do exactly what they said. But we have no idea of when or where. The suspense will make me crazy Ho Ho Ho.

*****And now, please read a very special request from our awesome boss******

Zoomers, if you can find some spare change in the sofa cushions, we could use it. April starts soon, and that is month six of this depressed media climate we now live in due to Trump Depression Syndrome. We thank you for any help you can give, and most of all, we thank you for coming here to read. Ursula

  1. Here you are again, rooting for other countries regarding tariffs. You really hate America don’t you? Maybe by President Trump raising tariffs on other countries it will bring them to the negotiating table & encourage them to reconsider THEIR tariffs on our goods.

    • It’s not rooting for them as I see it. It is demonstrating that there will be reaction and suggesting that Trump and his enablers will have to face the reality of their actions, hopefully quickly and get back to whatever counts as the “norm”. Seems to me that the gung ho tariff brigade are like I was as a kid: great playing tennis on my own against a wall but not when I faced my sister across a net. More accurately (and bloodier), the boxer, great in the gym and the punchbag but, in the ring, ……

  2. so I get to point a gun at you and demand you hand over your money and if you fight back I can shoot you and call it self defense? the orange moron isn’t responding to other country’s tariffs he started it and he needs to be knocked on his ass before he completely destroys our economy.

    • What the hell are you talking about? Do you know & understand that EVERY SINGLE NATION in the world charges the U.S. higher tariffs than we charge them? That is why President Trump is putting (kind) reciprocal tariffs across the board to play on a more level field. He didn’t start them.
