This could be the chocolate sauce on the volcano cake which is the 2020 election. New York attorney general Leticia James is investigating allegations that the Trump Organization inflated the values of its real estate assets in order to obtain loans and get tax benefits. Eric Trump was subpoenaed to testify in May and stalled. That wasn’t such a good tactic because today a judge ruled that the court wasn’t bound by the scheduling of the national election. CNBC:

Eric Trump, who is the president’s middle son and a top executive in the Trump Organization, must testify no later than Oct. 7, Judge Arthur Engoron ruled after a hearing in Manhattan Supreme Court, where Trump’s lawyers had asked to delay his deposition until after the election.

Engoron noted that, “Mr. Trump cites no authority in support of his request, and at any event, neither petitioner nor this court is bound by timelines of the national election.”

The deposition is ordered to take place less than a month before the election and it should be juicy. This investigation was launched last year right after Michael Cohen testified that Trump inflated his assets in order to get good rates on loans and insurance coverage. Nothing like testimony about a candidate’s fraud being made a part of the public record right before voters go to the polls.

The assets that James is eyeing include Seven Springs Estate, a 212-acre property in Westchester County, New York.

Court filings note that valuations of Seven Springs were used to claim an apparent tax deduction of more than $21 million, based on the donation of a conservation easement on the property.

The Financial Times last year noted that Trump purchased Seven Springs for $7.5 million in 1996, but valued it at more than $290 million in 2012. Forbes magazine in 2014 said that the entire property was worth less than $19.5 million, citing recent property sales and local realtors and assessors.

James’ office also says it is investigating a Trump building at 40 Wall St. in Manhattan, the Trump International Hotel and Tower Chicago,  and theTrump National Golf Club – Los Angeles.

The civil investigation by James is separate from a criminal investigation being conducted by Manhattan District Attorney Cyrus Vance Jr.

Unless I miss my guess, this is what jars Trump awake in the wee hours and sends him to the tweet box to displace aggression and convince himself of his own power. His past is catching up to him. He has to stay in office in order to stay out of prison and every day, like Sisyphus, he finds that task harder and harder to get up the mountain.

  1. Please let him simply not show up. And the judge issuing a bench warrant. I’d dearly love to see him being escorted in handcuffs to his deposition!

  2. It’s especially good because Eric’s lawyer claims that Eric is working 7 days a week on the campaign – while he’s supposed to be managing his father’s business.

  3. Being as how he has trouble walking down a ramp and stumbles when trying to walk up one, I very much doubt that he can climb this mountain.
