If you thought that Donald Trump’s disastrous debate performance couldn’t garner any more bad news you are as wrong as most of us were. He’s now getting blasted by Republican senators off the record according to Rawstory. This is worse than bad news springing from focus groups. These are the same lawmakers who always protected Trump from himself and everything disastrous in the past. He desperately needs them now.

To be sure, Trump has been in trouble with voters before, he did – in fact, lose in 2020. But Trump has never had to worry that something might punch a hole in his red brick wall in the Senate. But he’s never gotten his ass kicked so comprehensively.

Were that not enough, he has now compounded said kicking by continuing to double and triple down on some of the stupidest stuff, revisiting his mistakes – see the “pet story” that he simply won’t let go.

Republicans are particularly mad that Trump has been hanging around far-right media influencer Laura Loomer. So much so that they’re trashing Trump behind the scenes. Rawstory and NBC News now return the receipts on a big soup scoop.

“Throughout his third presidential campaign, aides and advisers have done their best to shield him from Loomer, a far-right social media influencer, and similar figures who stroke his ego and stoke his basest political instincts.”

Look, every self-respecting Republican politician strokes Trump and it’s great news to believe the strokes begin and end with his ego. No gambling on that, though.

Regardless, being an influencer isn’t Loomer’s problem, it’s that she’s a notorious race-baiter and further right than others on the far-right. This is not good.

“A Republican senator who is also a Trump ally said Trump is ‘often drawn to people who like and promote him,'” the outlet reported. “‘It’s really dumb.”

Now, the above may seem like an innocuous comment but how many times have you seen a Republican senator risk calling Trump “dumb” either on or off the record. Lindsey Graham doesn’t count because the Trump whisperer seems to have a “get out of jail free” card and can say virtually anything so long as he remains loyal.

Moving on:

“A Republican senator, speaking on the condition of anonymity to avoid angering his party’s nominee, said Trump is endangering his chances of winning — and so are the staff members who aren’t playing gatekeeper.”

Okay, ouch!

Why does this one land like a snake bite? Because – and you have to trust me on this – calling out staff members off the record is almost reckless as doing it on the record because staff members can often find out who it might be “off the record.” Some reporters define off the record as only that which is reported. Pointing to other sources is fair game.

So now “add it up” as the Violent Femmes once did so iconically. Why can’t Trump get “just one kiss” coming out of the debate? Because Harris’s beat down was so thorough! There is usually something positive to which one can point. Not this time.

Republicans are drilling Trump and staff behind the scenes already. If Trump looks to be falling behind, wait. Because the comments will start falling on the record.

Trump is in trouble, driving while fogged in through the headlights, unable to see daylight. Fitting, he was always an all or nothing kind of guy. Except this time it’s the Republican senate that has nothing to give.

That’s a first. One coming during a critical time during which Trump least wants to hear it.

  1. The other point about the danger of having Loomer on the plane with him is what the insiders have always said “Trump listens to and repeats what the last person that talks to him says”.

    • Ironically, I’m reminded of the many times Von Schitzie has recited the parable about the woman and the snake at his rallies…..
      😆🤣😆🤣😆🤣
I guess reciting the story so many times had no impact. So much for the IQ 73 Stable Genius.

  2. I’d be far more interested in reading these “blasts” if said GOP senators actually allowed their names to be put in print. We’re currently at a point where any of these senators who might be running for reelection cannot possibly be hurt by “blasting” Trump (are there actually ANY primaries left in which a sitting GOP senator has to worry about Trump supporters voting them out in the primary?). Either their voters will reelect them or that upset MAGAts are going to allow a *gasp* Democrat win that seat.

    • This is a great point. The only thing is that Trump is still probably more likely to win than not (though it’s far more dicey for him now than before) and that means that any of them who want to be secretary of state or attorney general need to still be super good.

No one knows it better than them. But if it turns into a rout, and especially if he loses, Katie bar the door because there is a lot pent up.

      • WHEN he loses, he’s going to take them down with him. But in truth, they did it to themselves for being weak assed sycophants who care more about their political career than they do America. All hail Kinsinger and Cheney for having the spine, the integrity and the guts to put country before party!

      • That’s the inference I detected in Jason’s article. I’m looking for the gloves to come off and the brass knuckles to replace them once the rout comes into focus.

    • Any ‘pube/magat who is insufficiently loyal, in trump’s eyes, will be primaried unless and until he is completely off the political stage-prison, coffin, off to another country… We’re still seeing voters after the debate which showed the emperor with no clothes on waffle on their support or downright saying they still support the fool. Senators listen to that stuff; they pay attention. Any voters who still, after his failed presidency, his disastrous handling of a pandemic, his total fuck-up of the economy, and now showing to the world a woman of color can and most certainly did make him look as stupid as he is, any voter still supporting his idiot ass are also going to vote for who he tells them to.

So, yeah, senators are actually worried about him throwing his support behind someone else and they will until he is gone.

    • So true. But circuses should be outlawed due to the abuse of the animals, in the same way, Trump should be “retired” by the voters.

Yes, especially this week, it’s been a circus. When I write these, they are always baffling how much material there is to support nearly any topic.
