Hello Darkness, my old friend. It’s going to get very black indeed over at Twitter when/if Elon Musk actually takes hold of the reins and reinstates Donald Trump. We knew it was coming but knowing something is coming and living through it are two very different things. Ask the good folks of Ukraine about that, they are experts. CNBC:

“Permanent bans should be extremely rare and really reserved for accounts that are bots, or scam, spam accounts… I do think it was not correct to ban Donald Trump,” Musk said at FT Live’s Future of the Car conference. “I think that was a mistake, because it alienated a large part of the country and did not ultimately result in Donald Trump not having a voice.”

“I would reverse the permanent ban,” Musk added. “I don’t own Twitter yet. So this is not like a thing that will definitely happen, because what if I don’t own Twitter?”

Twitter permanently suspended Trump from the platform in January 2021 following the attack by his supporters on the U.S. Capitol. The company said it made the decision after the Jan. 6 riot “due to the risk of further incitement of violence.” Trump at the time had more than 80 million followers on the platform.

But once Musk announced he was interested in taking over the company in part to make it a free speech platform, questions arose whether he would invite Trump back on. Trump said last month he wouldn’t return to the company if he had the chance.

“No, I won’t be going back on Twitter,” Trump told CNBC’s Joe Kernen.

“I will be on Truth Social within the week. Its on schedule. We have a lot of people signed up. I like Elon Musk. I like him a lot. He’s an excellent individual. We did a lot for Twitter when I was in the White House. I was disappointed by the way I was treated by Twitter. I won’t be going back on Twitter,” he said.

Musk is in a contract with Twitter’s management and it will be several months before he actually owns the platform. If he pulls out of the contract now, he faces a $1 billion penalty.

Elon Musk may become Big Brother, and Twitter a cesspool of disinformation.

  1. Twitter is an open-sewer with or without the Mango Moron.
I have never had an account there and only read tweets that are screenshots.
My only fear is that the media (including this site, sadly) will once again feel compelled to report on every one of his brain farts and 3 AM tweets from his gold toilet.
I pretty much avoid reading anything Trump-related and am hoping one day to read the headline “Trump and Kids Indicted” or, even better, “Trump sentenced”

    • What makes this whole chaotic mess even tolerable, is these writers here, in Politizoom, take the time to sort through the scumbag drivel, finding actions and reports of what the least-informed and intelligence-starved current events players are doing/saying publicly …

I, for one, cannot tolerate scanning through all the Biden-hate trash and giant wave of RWNJ’s, tying to stir the pot in the favor of Trumpisms, so there is that, as well and now it seems there MAY be a new door open to Trump’s continuous lies, fabrications and most importantly, the, “So unfair treatment claims against FAKE NEWS MEDIA”, which attacks the truth on every level …

I applaud these heroes of our own site, and enjoy the results of their investigations and their takes on what IS floating on the river of dis-information …

  2. A lot of people who aren’t RWNJs will be leaving Twitter if Elmo does any of what he wants, because it will become as bad as all the RWNJ sites.
Right now, it’s not bad, if you control who you read.

  3. Hmm. So “free speech absolutist” Musk actually is okay with banning SOME “free speech?” He’s against “bots” and “scam, spam accounts” but shouldn’t THEY be allowed to engage in THEIR right to free speech?

Tell us, Elon. What IS the difference between someone who uses Twitter to post lies, lies and more lies and engaging in name-calling (usually with highly inflammatory and hate-filled speech) and a “bot” or a “scam” account? Bots and scam accounts usually exist to act as forms of echo chambers, designed solely to support another highly dishonest account.

    • Also Mr. “free speech” cancelled a Tesla order of someone who made disparaging remarks about him online and fired a Tesla employee who posted FSD failures on his YouTube channel.
I guess free has a different meaning to Elon…

  4. On one hand I give Elon Mucus credit for starting the electric car industry and PayPal. On the other had his Space X and Twitter strategies are disgusting. We don’t need to go to Mars and we don’t need dictator wannabes in Twitter.
