E. Jean Carroll’s Attorney Says She Has More Fun In Store For Trump — In The Courtroom

While Donald Trump seems to have zipped his lips — temporarily, at least — after he was slammed with a whopping $83.3 million that he must pay author E. Jean Carroll for defaming her and ruining her career by saying she lied about allegations that he raped her in a Manhattan department store in the mid-1990s, Carroll’s lawyer, Roberta Kaplan has some more bad news for him. But at least now we know how much it costs to get him to shut up, anyway — not that far south of $85 million.

Now, Kaplan who has represented Carroll throughout the case, is gunning for more. She notes the former president committed another crime while testifying during her client’s civil defamation trial, which concluded Friday, Queerty reports.

“he lied again on the stand,” the attorney told anderson cooper on the heels of last week’s jury verdict. “he again said ‘i standby everything i said in my deposition which was i did nothing to e. jean carroll, never met her, she’s a whack job, never heard of her.’ so he not only committed perjury, but the jury themselves saw him commit perjury.”

For further emphasis, Kaplan showed the widely circulated photo of Trump and Carroll from the 1990s that proves he’s telling another yarn.

Kaplan explained, “[The jury] watched his deposition video, where he pointed out, as everyone knows, that famous photo of him, Ivana, and E. Jean and her then-husband, and he points to E. Jean and he says, ‘That’s Marla Maples.’ and then, my favorite part o of it is once he realizes he made a mistake, he says, ‘Oh, it’s a blurry photo.’And I said to the jury, ‘You saw the photo…It’s not a blurry photo.'”

Trump, without fail has kept up a constant mantra of denying the allegations Carroll, describing the case as a politically-motivated “witch hunt,” but that’s not what a jury found last year after finding hin liable for sexual abuse. A different jury also disagreed with him last week when it ordered him to pay nearly $90 million.

Kaplan didn’t tell Cooper if she plans to pursue more perjury charges against the fomrer president, but if she does, the charge carries a punishment of up to seven years in prison accopanied by an $5,000 if convicted.

It’s remarkable to me (and not in a good way) that despite all this nastiness and his vituperative comments, Trump is still the frontrunner for the 2024 Republican frontrunner in a race that’s between himself and his former U.N. ambassador Nikki Haley who is making small inroads but is still well behind him.

And the whopping amount he has to pay E. Jean Carroll? It breaks down like this: $7.3 million will go for compensatory damages, an addition $11 million for reputational repair and $65 million in punitive damages. That’s in addition to the $5 million in damages Trump was ordered to pay the former Elle magazine columnist last year in a different civil defamation trial connected to defaming Carroll in 2022.

As I said in an earlier post, payback can be a real b*tch. Trump thinks he can get away with everything and now, maybe, just maybe he’s finding out that’s not true.
