It was interesting to trip across this particular video because the imminent demise of the dollar and all global banking systems has been kicking around for about eight years now as the keystone to the New World Order. On a separate train of thought, Bitcoin was already in the world, having been invented in 2009, but it was a sleeper and wasn’t going anywhere at that time. But as with all things CT, the two unrelated issues found one another and the predicted overnight eradication of the global economy and the availability of Bitcoin were married and together they spawned this fruit fly.

What’s that you say? I’m not going to take investment advice from this lunatic? Where is your sense of adventure?

Now, over in Reality, a place the right-wingnuts have heard of but are completely loathe to visit, there is this data available.

Maybe money laundering slows down in the summer. I have no idea. I do know that Joel Greenberg offered to pay $250K in Bitcoin to Roger Stone to get him a pardon.

What I can tell you from first hand experience is that the Bitcoin craze got rolling in conjunction with the crash of the dollar conspiracy theory around 2014 and it was being pushed by the same End Times, New World Order fearmongers who also pushed the birther conspiracy and said that Obama was going to round up white people and imprison them in FEMA camps after he confiscated all the guns, as reparations for slavery. I used to share a house with somebody who watched this stuff on You Tube, that’s how I know.

If that theory sounds nutty to you, please turn your dial over to Newsmax, where you will hear that “the teaching of so-called ‘critical race theory’ in schools is akin to ‘exactly what was done to the Jews in Germany’ and is the ‘road to the death camps’ for white people.”

There you have it. The exact same fear, the white people are going to the death camps. Eight years ago it was on YouTube, in 2021 it’s on Newsmax. Daily Beast:

Republicans and right-wing media have been mired in a months-long freakout over critical race theory, an obscure legal academic framework that conservatives now use as a catch-all term for any racial-equity training or anti-racist school curriculum. At the same time, NBC News recently reported that the battle over CRT that has invaded local school boards is largely an astroturfed effort funded by well-connected national political organizations and right-wing activists.

Prior to interviewing Savage on Monday night, Newsmax hosts Steve Cortes and Jenn Pellegrino griped that the left was trying to deny that critical race theory exists while claiming they” have the receipts to prove” that it is “permeating all of our culture and our schools.” They then turned to Savage, a provocateur long known for his inflammatory and offensive rhetoric, as their expert on the subject.

After taking issue with NBC News anchor Chuck Todd dismissing the right-wing outrage over CRT, saying he’d like to “reach through the screen and smack him in the face,” Savage then delivered an overheated diatribe about how the schools are literally abusing white kids.

Then the Newsmax host, Steve Cortes, who not surprisingly was an advisor to the Trump campaign, chimed in with the bottom line, which is that the purpose of teaching critical race theory is to hate whites.

“I worry sometimes that if we continue to always use the phrase critical race theory that we might allow the left to hide, in effect,” the conservative host said. “What I mean is they’ll say, ‘Oh no, we’re not teaching CRT.’ But they are, in fact, teaching some other version of anti-white racism.”

Cortes concluded: “So I’d really—I’d prefer to call it anti-white racism as a term because, let’s face it, no matter what flavor this takes or what shape this takes the goal, always, is to shame white people.”

It all goes back to fear. Fear is the mind killer, said the line in Dune, and it is literally true with respect to the denizens of right-wingnuttia. Their minds are gone. That’s why they’re busy stockpiling guns and wishing they could afford to buy more Bitcoin, so that they can be overnight millionaires, or lacking that, at least be able to buy a can of beans when the entire monetary system hurtles to the ground and crashes, which they are being informed is any day now.

If you haven’t listened to right-wing talk radio ever, do so as an experiment. When I was driving from Los Angeles to Las Vegas the last time, I hit a pocket in Riverside County where I couldn’t get any decent stations on the radio. So I listened to the faux Christian dreck and to the wingnut announcer on at that time of day, I think it was Mark Levin, and this is the kind of doom and gloom that you hear.

Rural America is being programmed via talk radio and right-wing media. This is not a new observation, either. This has been going on since the 80’s. The dollar may have seen better days and Bitcoin may be shaky, but the coin of the realm is fear.

  1. “Talk radio” is cheaper even than those pre-recorded music shows that some networks tried. All you need is a studio with a feed.

  2. The collapse of the banking system and new world order was talked about in the 80’s. This is not new paranoia, just recycled.

  3. You can’t make this stuff up. Welcome to Wingnuttia, indeed. But the wing nuts need distraction because the have no legitimate positions on Real Issues, like infrastructure, economy, social justice.

  4. Going on a road trip this week. Have to remember to take some cd’s. When driving to the town all our doctors are in, after 15 miles I can no longer pick up the college station I keep the radio on. The pretend Christians and the Red Neck jocks are traitors and terrorist. They hide behind the 1A, but the Chinese and the Russians are more reasonable than American fascists.

    • I should have thought to buy some CDs but it simply didn’t cross my mind that I would run into that rural pocket. It was an interesting experiment, though. There are people who listen to that everyday.
