“Gratitude” seems to be a real hallmark of this current administration. Everybody is supposed to be so very very grateful for all that Donald Trump has done for them — even if he’s done jack. We saw this during the Zelensky debacle in the Oval Office. Zelensky was told he was a baaaad leader because he hadn’t said thank you sufficiently for the aid he had received. Yes, he had thanked the people who granted him aid when Ukraine was invaded and at the time that was not Trump.
And of course the Canadians are a bunch of ingrates. We’ve heard Trump bray about all that the benefit Canada has derived from the U.S. as though he were personally responsible and not a johnny come lately to politics. Then today, none other than Karoline Leavitt is giving the French a hard time for the same reason.
It's only because of Canada, the UK, and the French Resistance that France is free.
And it's only because of the French, who Benjamin Franklin begged for help, that Americans don't talk with a British/Canadian accent.

History is complex and important alliances shift over time. But the French have been staunch allies of the United States for quite some time. But that’s not the point. The point is that Leavitt is a know nothing. Say what you will about Kayleigh McEnany, who lied like a rug, but at least she was well educated and came to work prepared. Leavitt, on the other hand, is collecting a nice six figure income for getting in front of the podium and insulting people. Nice work if you can get it, I guess.
What I’m unhappy about is that no reporter has asked her about the fact that she was caught being dead wrong about tariffs being a “tax cut.” But I don’t them for not wanting to ask. It’s hairtrigger temper in this White House and if you look at somebody the wrong way you can be denied press credentials.
And face it, Trump has Leavitt just going through the motions. He’s got Fox News and the rest of right-wing media and his social media presence. He doesn’t care about the formality of press conferences. It’s all a lark.
She’s way too young to remember the war, and her parents probably are or were. That’s the problem. Most of people who fought and suffered through that conflict are gone. The memorials are still there, in every Canadian, UK and American city and town. Tens of thousands of them, and they list the names of those who died for their country to preserve our freedom.
Maybe Leavitt should visit some of them, or the endless graves that cover the UK and Europe. trump refused to honour our fallen family members because he thought they were just losers and suckers, and he didn’t want to muss his hair in the rain.
I can’t find any words adequate to express my loathing for him and his cult. For his own safety, he should never set foot in my country again because many, many other Canadians share my outrage.

Normally people would remember it even if they had no direct connection. They obviously haven’t forgotten the Civil War, But Trump is an ignoramus, he knows nothing and doesn;t want to know, and it’s contagious.
