At first glance, one will be tempted to think this is nothing more than Gov. Ron DeSantis wanting a place in the spotlight to push himself and Florida onto others. However DeSantis’s assertion that Florida will be investigating the attempted Trump shooting comes about due to DeSantis’s near-reckless assertion that the same federal government that is investigating Trump’s alleged criminal activities cannot be trusted to investigate a criminal security breach.
This goes much further than a governor wanting to remain relevant in both his current job and potential future run at the Oval Office. No, this is yet another example of a state believing that federal government has no place in nearly anything that doesn’t involve a check from the American taxpayers. Moreover, Florida is resisting a full federal investigation, one that might lead to accountability from federal agencies and federal personnel.
There is also a practical aspect to this. The FBI is the most elite law-enforcement agency on Earth, with both the agents and the “gear” to do the best investigation. Additionally, the FBI has the duty to analyze any attack on a federal official, along with the jurisdiction to investigate all criminal activity crossing state lines. Any rejection, anywhere, of the federal government, especially under political pretexts – is troubling. And yet, The New York Times reports that is exactly what is happening under DeSantis, who stated: (Video Below)
“In my judgment, it’s not in the best interest of our state or our nation to have the same federal agencies that are seeking to prosecute Donald Trump leading this investigation,” DeSantis said on Tuesday morning at a news conference in West Palm Beach, raising the possibility that the suspect, Ryan Routh, could face a state charge of attempted murder.
Yeah, except agencies are real good at walking and chewing gum at the same time! This is most true when there is an official independent investigation. They are also totally non-partisan when it comes to investigating attacks on federal officials, there is no agency on the planet that even compares.
But this isn’t about that. As noted, it’s about distrust, even contempt for the federal government in favor of power and money and shifting it to the state and local level. Such a tactic allows more political favors. But it bypasses a lot of national interests that come with national regulations. Florida’s attempt to do so comes with the firm belief that federal funding for education, healthcare, or even private contracting, remains a birthright that will remain untouched.
It is one thing for a state to declare independence on certain regulations, it is quite another to put federal money for federal dollars at risk. Moreover, few things bother states more than EPA regulations. Or at least it bothers them right up until another crappy state starts putting carcinogens into the air just a bit upwind of your shitty state. In that context that Ron DeSantis would otherwise be most acutely aware of the fact that it needs federal regulations and enforcement to prevent a future Alabama from dumping terrible pollution right up the Gulf that then dumps on Florida’s Destin beaches.
So, what comes around goes around. But for now DeSantis wants to dump the feds over the rails to win political points and most importantly, establish more distrust of the federal government.
There is no question about the need to protect former President Donald Trump. The two attempts on his life are nothing but a national nightmare for both Trump and our democracy. However it’s precisely because it’s such a dangerous concern that one wants the best to investigate and then prevent another future attack.
And just something to ponder. It was the U.S. Supreme Court that put limits on the whole Trump investigation thing. Apparently the national government is great when it benefits Trump. And Republicans are not questioning the jurisdiction on such a great federal decision. Oh, and they’re happy to take your Medicare dollars… And send some of that education stuff, too… The highways could use a touch-up… Student loans are sacred… And…

Another aspect is it would allow them to spin it as the fault of Biden/Harris despite the facts. What if it WERE a setup to add gravitas to the Trump failing campaign? How come we never saw the actual medical facts of the first attempt where they spun it yet didn’t come clean. That ear looked better after a few days than a shaving cut. We all know nazis lie lie lie lie…they are no exception, especially seeing forever how gullible the American public has become. I watched a clip of several black men claiming they are voting for Trump. When asked why…they said they got a check with his signature on it…a stimulus that PELOSI and the DEMOCRATS actually got for them. God this country is FULL of morons. After all let’s not forget this nazi in go go boots claimed the horror of slavery was a job training program!!!!! This pissant was allowed to park there for 12 hours? Something is rotten in Denmark.
The FBI has jurisdiction and that’s the end of it. If they haven’t yet, they need to tell death sentence to pack sand.

The FBI did as much to get slime wad in the WH as anyone, and did much to protect him from the truth coming out about Russia, as voters but now that a Dem is in the WH they can’t be trusted. I am so sick and tired of the hypocrisy.
If only DeSantis (and other GOPers) were as quick and willing to “investigate” and take action against school shootings.
