Despite the fact that Vice President Kamala Harris is surging, Donald Trump still leads. But Trump’s campaign staff worries that he won’t act like a confident winner in the upcoming campaign and instead will act and be the mean bully.
Yes, sure – that makes a lot of sense. He has many opportunities to let his angry side fly at his over-the-top rallies. Debates are supposed to sway moderates who want to be assured by a lower key, confident, Trump.
A person who believes that a win is at hand should appear confident in the inevitable. Perhaps he or she can come across as someone having a good time with nothing to lose, even be gracious.
The Trump campaign fears that an inexplicably furious Trump will take the stage.
Dummies. Trump can no more set aside the his white-hot response than the guy who just got his car booted. Plan for it, they shouldn’t wring their hands.
And yet, according to The New York Times, they are doing just that:
The former president’s allies and advisers have urged him to be “happy Trump” in the debate rather than “mean, bully Trump,” as one close ally put it, while pressing a policy-based case against Ms. Harris.
Well, if they’re urging him to be happy they are advising the wrong candidate. They should assume he’ll be spitting and flailing his arms, then be pleasantly shocked senseless if he’s acts like a happy, confident, leader.
But campaign staffers are paid to worry anyway and some actually fear the happy side:
One ally warned that if Mr. Trump tried to stay on his best behavior, he could overcorrect and come across as “low energy.”
Well, pick! Even though it’s normal to worry anyway, it’s not really effective to be afraid of one’s own shadow. Either way, he has to act confident (as does she) and find a way for him to look assured while crazed. That and plan the aftermath assuming that baseline fury shows up.
Obviously, it’s just as important for Harris to appear confident. They probably worry she won’t get a moment.
Harris can at least adhere to what she’s told. One could argue – and many do – that Trump’s appeal springs from the fact that on any given day, any given thing could happen. The only certainty is that he won’t listen.
Still, how he looks matters. If he looks scared, voters will worry that he’ll actually be scared facing down China, cleaning up a hurricane, or managing a global economy in free fall. In the end, it’s much worse to look afraid than be afraid.
Unfortunately for Trump, appearances can depend on listening to people who have advised many candidates. He won’t listen any more than your five year old.
Okay. Trump campaign? Worry.
I suspect that something Kamala says will set him off. It probably won’t be intentional, or maybe it will. Like you said he has no impulse control and mostly doesn’t listen to advisers.
Should be entertaining to watch.
VERY entertaining methinks, especially if Kamala decides to say such things as “Your Covid incompetence killed half a million Americans” or “Tell us about Jared being gifted $2 billion by MBS.” She can also ask “Where are Ivanka and Melania these days?” or “Have you received the $1 billion from Big Oil yet?” All of those and many other truths will send Trumpler into a rage that no amount of coaching could ever control. Can’t wait, have popcorn ready …
Nothing wrong with that.
Kamala has so much more sense and smarts than DJ, and she won’t let him bring him down with lies.
Kamala is very well educated.
Keep in mind that DT paid someone to take his college graduation test.
How smart is that?
Happy Trump?
He only has two emotions, anger, or gloating. He has never felt happiness. The emotion ‘happiness’ is completely alien to him.
That’s why he can’t even fake it.
Ever since his descent on the gold-plated escalator to announce his initial candidacy, Von Schitzie’s ,message has been doom and gloom, proclaiming “the world is laughing/taking advantage of us”, “our cities are cesspool of crime”, and so on. No way in hell can someone with that message and attitude turn 180 degrees and project a positive attitude and deliver an upbeat and inspiring message.
“Happy Trump” indeed! He’s not been happy since attaining the age of awareness!
This will be the same audience that watched Mean Bully Trump being a total shit to Biden with the help of sound techs and spineless facilitation, and decided that the appropriate response to that was for a bunch of politicians and oligarchs to railroad Biden out of office with the willing collaboration of a slew of idiots. Fortunately, Biden had more brains then the lot of them and did NOT leave office, merely left campaigning, tossing the baton to Harris in such a way as to prevent the stupid, self destructive gladiatorial spectacle the oligarchs and press were jonesing for.
Now he can run the country, she can run for office, shit gets done, and she gets the credit. Nicely played. And you will notice that a few among the slew of idiots have begun to dimly comprehend that they might have been suckered into betraying one of their strongest allies on a whim. Good. Let them wear the stink and the shame of that for years.
I do not think the slew of idiots will be any less idiotic on this round. In respect of which, the last thing we need is for Harris to flaunt Vlad’s endorsement just to get a rise out of Trump. She can do that merely by standing there being biracial and female at him. Throw in her brains and competence and she has him on the ropes before either of them shows up at the studio.
He has sides? Who knew?
