Mark Cuban works space at a much deeper level than most of us, though we do have access when led with clarity. His observations regarding the fact that the world simply isn’t big enough for both Donald Trump and Elon Musk aren’t new, nor do they require any sort of meta-analysis beyond the ordinary means of any of us. Things do start to get interesting, however, when the Cubanian diagram of the Musk v. Trump alignment hovers over artificial intelligence or the “AI sub-text.” Indeed, when Cuban says that he predicts the biggest cage match ever will be Trump versus Elon and it will be over what Elon wants to set loose (via AI) versus what Trump wants to control (via the presidency), it is hard to see with any clarity how it plays out, only that it will – Cuban’s been hitting on this for a while now. The tech oligarchs came to heel for a reason, and this is the one available, making the most sense – any sense. It is the reason.

It would be hard to point to a “darker” technology out there than Artificial Intelligence, and not just because of the nightmarish scenarios that are often associated. No, more because so much of the research and new development is done “in the dark” so to speak. Where were you when Grok debuted? It was always there, wasn’t it? You and I live in a world where you could always just go to grok.com (Or x.ai) and ask the question: “Where does AGI research stand right now?” And get the following, in part:

Discussions around AGI also involve preparing for its impact on society, including job markets, privacy, security, and ethical governance of AI.

AGI research is at a stage where the foundational work is being laid, with significant advancements in AI capabilities, but the leap to true general intelligence remains an open question with many technical, philosophical, and practical hurdles yet to overcome.

Mull that over because Grok and Chat GPT et al. were not around all that long ago but they’re definitely around now, ready to do more and more, so consider such when you review Cuban’s tweet on Bluesky.

The biggest cage match ever will be between Musk and Trump. Elon will try to implement AI in a manner that automates much of what Trump is now trying to control. Trump will have no understanding of what is going on and will have to turn to the AI oligarchs to support him in this battle.

I don’t think people realize how consequential globally this will be. The future ain’t what it used to be

Mark Cuban (@mcuban.bsky.social) 2025-02-16T00:29:38.847Z

I cannot tell you what Cuban envisions concerning the upcoming cage match. I can tell you that when I feed, “What kind of cage match fight will Musk and Trump have? What will the fight be over?” Grok lines up stuff on:

Both are influential figures with strong, sometimes polarizing, public images. A disagreement on how to handle media, public statements, or political endorsements could lead to a fallout. Ego: Both have strong personalities and egos. A personal disagreement, perhaps over credit for success or differing views on leadership, could escalate.

Alright, fair enough, kid. Get out. Grok does some nice work, but it’s AI work and thus, in the end, nothing more than the product of algorithmic learning, sentence by sentence, word by word, learning Shakespeare as a number construct. It may not feel like the next thing but that’s not the point, it is the next thing and – by some definitions, that makes it the last thing, too. I wanted to see if we could go full meta and have GROK predict that it would be AI that pins Musk against Trump but for that, we still need real human genius in Mark Cuban. Cuban assures us that it will be over AI.

I suspect he is right. I just don’t know how to put it all together. When I ask Grok what the next big development in AI looks like, it really cannot say, only guessing that it will have to do with “deep learning” and likely involve driving, which makes some sense – AI cannot really break into anything unless it’s mobile and threatens jobs.

So there it is. We need to figure out what might bring about the death match in Trump v. Musk. GROK itself predicts that the fight will be about personality clash as much as anything. But both of these men are too practical, or – at least, too money driven, to have it be solely about egos. There will have to be a lot of money at stake, too. For Musk, that’s his only currency. Trump has the presidency, with or without cash, but we can’t pretend that the money won’t matter just as much to Trump – probably a wash.

One thing of which we can be relatively certain, when the fight happens, people will know. They aren’t going to be able to bury this, too many people talking, too many egos and attention-seekers. It will be out there and we will have to assess then. We can ask GROK to score the sheets.

Cannot be done under a reign of tyranny‼️bsky.app/profile/ronf…

  1. After reading the 1st sentence, The thought came to mind that I don’t really understand what it means. After reading the whole article, (okay, it’s about AI. Meh!), I reasoned that becoming a billionaire is basically the last step in your quest. What do you do next? Figure out ways to make more money? Sure. Easy to do because the rich just get richer. But maybe, the only thing left to do is go about destroying the world.

    • It could just mean that all of this was just terrible writing. I try not to do that to people but it was 4:00 a.m. and so I appreciate you giving any of your time. I mean that sincerely.

Readers always struggle with understanding why it’s such a massive honor to have anyone spend any time with your thoughts/writing. Mind blowing.

But I do bore people wit AI precisely because no one really “knows” what that “bang” moment looks like, when AI becomes dominant.

I guess think of it as the ability to “Google” your current experience, and what you seek answers from it regarding? It is tough to describe. Only know that this is maybe the final big stake out there. Bc every big discovery from that point will have Big AI programmed into it.

  2. The real question is whether artificial intelligence beats natural stupidity.

Since Dimwit Donny is on that side, (obviously), my money’s on him.

  3. I think it is too late to be predicting cage matches, Donnie is acting absolutely cowed and subservient around Elon.
Asking AI anything is ridiculous. It isn’t good writing.
