Call me mean-spirited but after a bad day yesterday, today is getting off to what to me is a more cheerful start. Now that Trump crossed the Rubicon on firing a cabinet member by tossing out Kristi Noem folks have wondered “Who’s next?” Speculation this morning is rampant that Attorney General Pam Bondi’s face us on the ‘You’re Fired Countdown Clock.’
As you know, Trump made a host of awful choices for his Cabinet for his second term. Unlike the first term when he had people coming and going seemingly on a daily basis it became clear the mockery of his revolving door stung. At least some of the initial Cabinet members in his first term were competent. This time he went out of his way to get the worst people he could find. It’s hard to think of any of them not being worse than we feared which was of course the point. Trump’s problem was that they were dragging HIM down but he didn’t want to deal with the pundits talking about his screwing up by choosing them in the first place. That was before the acronym TACO (Trump Always Chickens Out) entered the lexicon. So Trumpty-Dumpty dug in his heels and hoped the unending cascade of embarrassments from top Cabinet members would stop.
However even Trump came to realize that part of why his poll numbers are in his fake gold toilet is high profile screwups from top Cabinet members. It was only a matter of time until Trump would start throwing others under the bus to try and save his own fat ass. The question was who would be first. Noem drew the short straw, but she hadn’t even cleaned out her desk before speculation started on who would be next. This morning it’s looking like despite her performance jackasser on Capitol Hill which was designed to please an audience of one (Trump) AG Pam Bondi’s time is coming to an end. From Newser:
Trump is reportedly frustrated with Bondi for two main reasons: He thinks she mishandled the Jeffrey Epstein files and hasn’t been aggressive—or successful—enough in going after his political enemies. CNN notes that Trump chief of staff Susie Wiles has been a strong advocate for Bondi, though even Wiles previously acknowledged to a Vanity Fair reporter that Bondi had “completely whiffed” on the Epstein files. The issue may intensify in the coming weeks, with Bondi scheduled to appear before a House panel on April 14 to discuss her department’s investigation into Epstein.
If Wiles, who had been Bondi’s advocate in the WH has started thinking ‘Blondi’ hasn’t helped Trump enough, or worse has become a liability then yes, the clock is ticking. Other outlets are also reporting that Bondi’s neck is on the chopping block. The Daily Beast reports four individuals spoke off the record saying discussions have been underway to replace Bondi:
Attorney General Pam Bondi is potentially next on the chopping block, according to a report published on Wednesday by The New York Times.
Trump, 79, has reportedly discussed firing Bondi as the nation’s top prosecutor in recent days, the newspaper reported, citing four people familiar with the conversations.
The sources, who spoke under condition of anonymity, said that the president had tossed around the idea of replacing Bondi with Lee Zeldin, the administrator of the Environmental Protection Agency.
The Daily Beast notes that Bondi accompanied Trump on his visit to SCOTUS yesterday. As I’m sure you know Trump didn’t like how things were going and left early. Solicitor General John Sauer was first to face the Justices and didn’t exactly cover himself in glory. Not long after the ACLU’s Cecillia Wang got her turn at the podium to face questioning. Legal pundits pretty much all say she did a much better job than Sauer. It was also speculated that Trump up and left because it so quickly became clear she was the better lawyer, and wouldn’t wind up bruised like Sauer did.
Of course, Sauer who was before his current job one of Trump’s personal lawyers (who lost, which makes me wonder why Trump ever had anything to do with him again) was dealt a crap hand to argue in front of SCOTUS. He is however a man, and Bondi is a woman. Trump is as sexist as he is racist so it’s not a stretch to imagine he’d believe the reason Sauer looked bad in comparison to Wang is because DOJ (which Trump treats as his personal law firm) didn’t do a good enough job prepping him. And THAT Trump will blame on Bondi. At least he didn’t have the Secret Service find some outfit that does tree removal and toss her into its wood chipper.
However the fact Trump already has someone in mind to replace Bondi means she’d better be doing two things. First, polish her resume. Second? She’d better get a damned good lawyer of her own because she’s going to need plenty of help once she’s no longer the country’s top prosecutor. She might as well tattoo a target on herself because she will be one! In the meantime the clock is ticking and growing ever louder.
Again, call me mean-spirited but I love the thought of her nightmares being of her own version of the character in The Telltale Heart. Only instead of hearing a heart beating ever louder it’s a ticking clock hidden near wherever she is. Tick Tock asshole!
Friends, I know everyone begs you for money. I promise, among all those asking for spare change, we are the smallest and the hardest working. We’re a group of old, disabled people, except for one writer in his mid-50s. The rest of us are in our sixties and seventies, and this is a labor of love. All we’re asking for is the chance to keep telling the truth about Trump and help ensure democracy survives. If you can help, please do. Thank you. Ursula

Raw Story just had an article pop up that she has been fired. Awwww. Well, Blondi deserved it. I want to be fair because Trump expected her to do the impossible, but if she hadn’t whiffed on Epstein, she might have been able to calm him down about the Revenge Tour(tm). After all, Trump wanted the sorry excuse AGs that got into so much trouble.
So, no, I can’t be fair. She’s the symbol for all the legal screwups. And she did it to herself. Good luck finding another job. Law firms are going to back away from her, and even Fox News might take a pass. Awwwww.
