Charlie Kirk Gives Barack Obama Lessons on How to Be a Man

Ah, yes – manhood. There has likely never been an election as focused around gender battles than that which we soon face. Once again, American males and the society at large face the existential crises posed by the possibility of being led by a woman. This despite the fact that the U.K.’s Margaret Thatcher helped Ronald Reagan stare down the Soviet Union nearly 50 years ago. But the U.S. is different when it comes to gender and this election has pit the Trump-supporter “alpha male” trope against that of clear thinking policy preferences. Thus it was that Turning Point’s alpha male Charlie Kirk found himself giving Barack Obama lessons in how to be a man.

As is typical, Kirk – whether he’s even aware of it or not – likely has it come down to nothing more than candidate choice. After all, if Obama had been standing in front of a group of young black men and talking about the danger of a Harris presidency and the need to vote for Trump, he could have been wearing eye-liner and lip balm. Kirk would’ve backed Obama up as “The Man.” Alas, neither was the case. We have a transcript from Joe My God and there is the video of Obama talking to young black men in Detroit below). Here is Kirk:

“They decided to deploy Barack Hussein Obama to Pittsburgh yesterday. And Barack Obama, in his typical cool guy way, was talking to the brothers. Now that’s his quote that I am using. The Black men that are increasingly rejecting Kamala Harris.

Stop momentarily. It is absolutely true and a big problem in that men of all kinds, white and black are increasingly turning away from Harris as is now shown in more recent polling. If you aren’t used to hearing it that plainly, get used to it because it’s reality. As for Obama talking in his usual cool-guy way, it likely didn’t occur to Kirk that Obama talked as such because he happens to be the ultimate “cool guy.” Moving on:

“They’re seeing it in the data. Men of all racial backgrounds, of all ages, of all backgrounds want nothing to do with Kamala Harris, and for good reason. No real man can or should vote for Kamala Harris. She hates you.

I have a major problem with this. As true as it might be that men are starting to move away from Harris (In small percentages), it is not because “she hates you.” That is the stereotype lofted on to women who will not submit to being controlled by a man, the only reason could be selfish hatred, not dignity, strength, or leadership.

“Her agenda will belittle you, will disempower you, and Barack Obama is seeing this in the data. This is the most femboy, effeminate, low testosterone, soy boy approach on how to talk to men.

“You talk to men like you do in a football locker room, direct. You challenge them. You tell them what they ought to do.

Go down below and watch Barack Obama talk to the men. You will not be shocked by how much he sounds like a football coach or military officer directing real men – men with brains and brawn, challenging them, putting a finger to their chest, all with very little patience. He challenged them as to their beliefs and what they “ought to do.” Kirk may not like how Obama challenged them, or what Obama wants them to do, but Obama is exactly the person that Kirk describes. The “femboy,” “effeminate” and “low testosterone” stuff is simple window dressing, insecure adjectives that are ultimately nothing more than a positive feedback loop into a preordained position.

“You talk about duty. You talk about honor. You talk about the pursuit of greatness. He talks to them as if they are in a group therapy session with a bunch of middle-aged drug-addicted women.

“They wonder why they’re losing men? Well, Barack Obama’s not exactly a great example of an American strong man.”

Says Charlie Kirk to the man who ordered Bin Laden’s death halfway across the world on the back of a CIA operation that had no direct proof it was Bin Laden hiding away in the compound. Taking this alpha male thing further, Trump plays golf, which is perfectly fine – so do a lot of men. Obama played golf and pretty hard-nosed basketball on what was the White House tennis court. I suspect a lot of elbows were thrown, some bodies went to the ground, trash talk, and sweat swapped – his testosterone bona fides are solid. To say the least. Kirk? You’ve got next.

But this has nothing to do with anything much more than a stereotypical trope that serves the “alpha male” ego. If they do not like Kamala Harris or her approach? Fine, that’s their choice. But don’t tell other men that believing in her vision and her way of governing is antithetical to manhood. Indeed, it is insecure in and of itself to simply declare that party choice or support for Trump is the sin qua non of manhood – that a man best get on board or become a “femboy” “soy bean eating” (??) and “low-testosterone” type of guy. As if voting for Donald Trump is all the proof one needs that their manhood is secure, their brain operates in the correct balance of drive with thought, and everything else falls into place.

Ultimately, whether it is Barack Obama, your husband, or even a writer, being a man comes down to many variables and ultimately falls into a place where one is comfortable in their own skin, able to rise to a challenge, stand up and be counted, and take care of oneself and his responsibilities. That’s neither being alpha, beta, or whatever one wants to call it. It just “is.”

Charlie Kirk can have his beliefs and what he values. That is fine. But he probably ought to actually watch and listen to Obama talking to the young men below because he is exactly the guy that Kirk described. And if being a man ultimately rests solely on belonging to one political camp versus another – which is what Kirk is really saying, it’s not very individualistic – it’s more out of preconceived necessity, less thought through, and ultimately less fulfilling.
