It is liable to get a bit screwy as the last Georgia votes are tallied, but keep one foot on the ground as you parse this: If these decisive runoff elections had to take place anywhere in the country, what better state than Georgia, which has performed three ballot recounts in the 2020 presidential race, while withstanding the slings and arrows of a deranged Donald Trump? Business Insider:
Democrat Raphael Warnock will defeat Republican Senator Kelly Loeffler in one of Georgia’s two US Senate runoff elections, Insider and Decision Desk HQ project.
Warnock is now set to become Georgia’s first Black Senator.
Counties are reporting votes at different speeds, and counting early, mail-in, and Election Day votes at different times. Due to the rise in mail-in and early voting compared to previous elections, the final results of both races may not be known on Tuesday night.
The Cook Political report’s Dave Wasserman summed up the current state of the race in three key points: “1. Black turnout looks, frankly, phenomenal. 2. Perdue/Loeffler are approaching Trump %s of the vote in a lot of deep red rural counties, but turnout there isn’t anything special. 3. It’s getting harder to see a path for either R, but esp. Loeffler.”
Meanwhile, Trumpty Dumpty is characterizing it as fraud — what else would you seriously expect?
Looks like they are setting up a big “voter dump” against the Republican candidates. Waiting to see how many votes they need?

This is a great night, friends. This is America. When a man of the people, and a Black man at that, can defeat an amoral, unqualified, unconcerned, rich white bitch — excuse me, I’m just going to call it how I see it — this is what it’s about. This is democracy.
Hallelujah. Let’s see who else is calling this race.

I hope so. MSNBC isn’t calling anything yet.
No body is calling this yet. But Business Insider is not some fly by night outfit. They are highly credible and if they say they have a decision desk that’s credible — until I hear otherwise, I’m a believer.
No one wants egg on their face is why. Folks I trust like Dave Wasserman? They’re saying it’s pretty much a mortal lock.
I will say, though, that Business Insider is a “conservative” outlet — not meaning in the political sense, but they’re akin to Bloomberg, shall we say? if they’re calling it, unless some night editor has gone batshit nuts, I think it’s real. Believe me, I read the headline three times before I did this blog.
Yeah! My math is saying 50-50 with Warnock winning by a few hundred votes.
As I said, my dear, ironically, what better state for this to happen in than Georgia? I think this is wonderful. I am ready to fall over.
One wit on Twitter said that Trump did to Georgia Republicans what Sherman did to Atlanta.
How funny. The old racist is being compared to the Union general who destroyed the south. I love it.
Current margins seem to be better than that. But by an inch or a mile, a win remains a win.
Luckily, that didn’t happen because a “few hundred votes” would’ve meant the GOP figuring out a way to claw back his win.
I expect they’ll call it for Ossoff by tomorrow morning. Loeffler never stood a chance against Warnock, primarily because she never had to speak to people she didn’t know like he did on the regular. Perdue falling to COVID was likely the final nail in the coffin that Ossoff began building for him on that debate stage.
I am of course praying that Jon Ossoff wins — but right now I am just savoring the defeat of Kelly Loeffler. She has no business in politics. She’s an entitled rich bitch with zero social conscience or feel for the people or the land. Fuck her. The election of Rafael Warnock is a true and beautiful thing. I am elated. I just pray to God this isn’t some statistical slip and this victory is snatched from us.
Amazing.
Nah, not likely from everything I’ve heard, Ursula. Remember that Abrams and her people have been getting for this fight for two years. And after the BS stunts Trump has been pulling? Rafensberger has got extra incentive to make this honest with everybody wstching.
I have always admired Stacey Abrams but now I think she’s a freaking miracle worker.
As is true with trial lawyers, it’s all in the prep.
I made this comment to a friend earlier…four years ago she set out to register 250k voters, and train them how to show up and vote. Working out of small offices they racked up the registrations, which totally flipped the presidential and two senate races, which flipped control of Congress, which sets American history on a completely different course.
Such a small thing to have such tremendous impact.
Amen. From their lips to God’s ears.
Cook Political’s David Wasserman called both for Democrats. That’s good enough for me, Mitch’s reign of tyranny has come to an end.
The difference between the two parties has never been more clear. That, combined with the realization that Black voters are a rising force to be reckoned with, hopefully will carry the day and into the future.
One could say this past night was the night we took Dixie down.
You’d get BOJO’d from DailyKos for that “bitch” remark! (I recently got a time out for commenting that while Kathleen Rice may not be as pretty as “AOC,” she’s more qualified for the seat on the Energy and Commerce committee).Oh, I forgot —you already are. That place has become a cesspool of ignorance. Today it’s all about how evil Joe Manchin is — and nobody seems to really know anything about him.
All this, mind you, while they’re celebrating a victory they likely had little to do with. But never mind that for today. Bitch McConnell just got owned by everybody he thought he could outsmart. So today is a really good day which I’m celebrating with the Stones Exile On Main Street double album.
