This is continuing to break as I type this. The dynamic duo of Peter Alexander and Ali Vitali of MSNBC have gone on the air to confirm that Ivanka Trump is in active negotiations with the J6 committee to ensure her cooperation and testimony.
This is big for a whole lot of reasons. First is the circumstances. Those of you who follow this stuff more closely probably remember that several weeks ago the J6 committee sent Ivanka a request for documents and testimony. Reporting at the time showed that Ivanka received the request and was considering it. The stale date for her to reply and comply has king ago come and gone., yet the J6 committee did not follow with an expected subpoena for compliance. This suggests to me that there have been quiet conversations going on in the background for quite some time now.
Second, it would be frankly insane for Ivanka to be playing some kind of a double game here. She already has enough looming legal troubles with a fast approaching document dump date and deposition for the NY AG in the civil suit. Why play fast and loose here, teasing the committee only to blow them off, literally forcing them to slap her with a subpoena, and all the attendant headaches. I can’t believe she’s not serious.
This isn’t just some signal of a power play by Ivanka. If it were Rudy Giuliani doing this, I would say he was sending Trump a signal to pony up for The G Man’s legal bills, or suffer the consequences. But as I have explained previously, unlike her brothers, Ivanka isn’t dependent on her father’s largesse. She has already been a successful businesswoman, and has a wealthy husband from a wealthy family. What is there for her to demand from him in return for her silence?
But here’s the biggest thing to my mind. She has had a troubled relationship with her father for some time now. She was bitterly disappointed in his response to the Capitol riot. When Jarvanka bought a home in Florida, they made sure to leave some distance between their McShack and Mar-A-Lago,
But with this news today, it is going to open a chasm between Trump and Ivanka. And he is not a man to take slight kindly, remember, he slapped his own son across the face for wanting to wear a Yankees jersey to a baseball game. He screamed at Melania for wearing That stupid fucking jacket on her trip to the border. If she is actually negotiating in good faith, then she has obviously come to peace with the idea of no future relationship with her father, or likely her brothers.
I cannot imagine that the J6 committee would leak this information without Ivanka’s knowledge and approval, they would eisk her angrily rejecting them. If she knows, then they’re probably closer to an agreement rather than farther. And the J6 committee really doesn’t want much. Only things liker her personal conversations with Trump and Pence on J6, anything she knows about the writing of
Trump’s J6 speech, any plans she heard of about the Trump administration attempting to delay or mess with the electoral vote count, you know, background stuff.
As I said, this is still a developing story. But the simple fact that it is out there, and corroborated is a potential land mine for Trump. Ivanka is exactly the inner circle witness the committee has been dreaming of. Don’t touch that dial.
Ivanka has nothing to fear from the J6C. From all accounts, she wasn’t in on the planning or plotting. She and Jared had reportedly checked out of the admin after the election was called. They were more concerned w/ lining up their own futures.
Well, then. If she truly has “nothing to fear,” she certainly wouldn’t mind going before them and answering their questions. If she refuses to cooperate and appear to answer questions, she implicitly acknowledges she DOES have knowledge the Committee would like to hear about.
