Lawyers who are attempting to remove Marjorie Taylor Greene from the ballot using the Insurrectionist Clause of the 14th Amendment filed a brief Friday saying that Greene perjured herself when she said that she didn’t remember advocating martial (in her parlance “Marshall”) law to Mark Meadows. The Guardian:

As reported by Bloomberg News, attorneys for Greene’s challengers said: “Greene’s testimony at the hearing that she could not remember discussing martial law with anyone was already dubious.

“This text with President Trump’s chief of staff makes her testimony even more incredible because it seems like the kind of message with the kind of recipient that a reasonable person testifying truthfully would remember.”[…]

The judge in Greene’s case has said he will soon make a recommendation to Brad Raffensperger, the Georgia secretary of state, who will then rule.

Raffensperger is a conservative Republican but also the official who blocked Trump’s attempt to overturn his defeat in Georgia. Raffensperger has said that caused him to fear for his safety.

Greene appears in This Will Not Pass, a hotly anticipated new book by two New York Times reporters, both in her relation to the January 6 attack and as a thorn in the side of congressional Democrats.

“If there was one Republican who had shown she had no business serving in Congress,” Jonathan Martin and Alexander Burns write, “Democrats believed it was” Greene.

The House speaker, Nancy Pelosi, though, “thought it would be pointless to try expelling Greene from the House. Even if an expulsion vote succeeded, the speaker believed Greene would easily win a special election in her district and return.”

Raffensperger would be doing a service to Georgia, no question, but whether he sees it that way and wants to ignite a political firestorm is another question altogether.

There is one ray of hope. Greene was very definite about not knowing who Anthony Aguero was, even though it’s been proven elsewhere that they know one another. If a text showed that Greene was in communication with Aguero or one of the Oath Keepers during the riot, then that could convict her of perjury, because she very definitely said, no, she was not in touch with anybody storming the Capitol. The rest of the time she went into her amnesia act, but she did say definitely she wasn’t communicating with any of the rioters during the riot. So that is her Achilles heel. Maybe the J6 Committee has such a text.

What a place we have fallen to when we’re sitting on pins and needles wondering if a secretary of state will throw a seditionist off the ballot because it might be too costly to his own political career to do so. America may already be lost.

  1. It’s not just his career – he is from a state full of gun toting rabid MAGAs who have already threatened his life. This is what the orange weasel has brought us. Death threats for anyone who doesn’t agree with him or his undereducated angry base.

    • It’s not as if we could not predict this. The warning signs were there when the tea-baggers started their nonsense. Possible even before–I sure as shit did not think ronnie ramjet and the rest were going to do our nation any good at all and I sure as hell nailed that one.

I will go back to my same wheeze: the dems continually snatch defeat from the jaws of victory so something needs to change–my thought is we need to rid our country of the two-party system. Nothing is getting done right now except for the two parties playing the “when we’re in power we will fuck you badly” games. It might be I am over optimistic about more parties being an answer for the shit going on now but it cannot make things any worse.

Hell, I’ve voted third-party candidates–when the New Alliance Party still fielded candidates I always pulled the lever for them.

      • The problem with third parties is that they bleed votes away from Democrats, historically. Maybe we’ll end up with three parties anyhow, GOP, Dems, and MAGA. It could go that way.

    • I would not blame him if he didn’t do the right thing, considering the hell fire that he incurred when he did the right thing and stood up to Trump. As you point out, lunatics with guns have threatened him. The problem is, if we’re starting to give up to the lunatics with guns, then pretty much the game is over.

  2. Absolutely Ursula, but as what happened on the Night Of Glass in Germany it can happen here now. In Germany after the attack on the Jews of Berlin, the Left stood by and did nothing. They believed it would all blow over eventually, and besides the lunatics with guns were dangerous as well. We all know now how that turned out.
