If the walls of the Kennedy Center could talk, they would tell you that this is a first. The Kennedy Center has had the most noteworthy artists in the world within its confines and the Kennedy Center Honors show draws worldwide attention and accolades. Donald and Melania Trump showed up tonight to the theater and the ovation that they drew was raucus. It’s surprising how many “boos” there were, considering that the place was jammed with MAGAs for Trump’s fundraiser. What’s that all about? The libs are there in force, even for a MAGA-sponsored get together?

If you replay this and look closely, you’ll see that Melania is on Trump’s left and then after all the ruckas dies down, she crosses in front of him and decides to sit on his right. Why? She thinks the bullets might come from the left side of the stage? You also can see a guy on the far right of the theater box saying something (either to Trump in an earpiece or to the Secret Service, who knows?)
I don’t know what to make of that and I offer no opinion, other than that with these two, it’s always unconventional at the least and works its way up to varying stages of nuttiness rather quickly.
The understudies will be performing soon. I imagine that it will still be a good performance — not that Donald or Melania would know. I predict that Trump will be asleep in five minutes and if Melania can just make it through his snorting and farting she should do okay. And no, I don’t know how much they paid her to come out tonight and sit with him. I venture to say she would rather be in New York. And I would bet that she’ll be flying back there tonight and not staying at the White House.
Whatever acting is taking place on the stage tonight, it’s nothing to the ongoing pretensions of these characters, who would have you believe that they’re somebody altogether different from who they are.
