The closing arguments are being heard in the Trump Organization fraud trial in New York City this morning. It is going as Bizarro World as you would expect. NBC News is reporting “A Nassau County bomb squad was called to Engoron’s home and was investigating Thursday morning; it is unclear whether Engoron was home at the time. On Wednesday, there was a tense email exchange between Engoron and Trump attorney Chris Kise over whether Trump could speak at closing arguments. Engoron ultimately denied the request.”

And naturally this resulted in a delay in processing reporters and lawyers through the security lines surrounding the courthouse. Meanwhile, Trump has been in front of the cameras twice, so he’s placated for the moment.

The New York Times is doing running updates.

“I will be brief, your honor,” Habba says. She quickly starts lashing out at the attorney general, saying that the judge is being “dragged through a political agenda.” Engoron immediately cuts her off, saying that she must stick to the facts and the law. This may get heated quickly.

Habba, the most demonstrative of Trump’s lawyers, has been insisting on the former president’s net worth, saying that he is worth billions and mocking the idea that he could have committed fraud. “There was absolutely no material investigation,” she says — a statement that is difficult to decipher.

Now this is intriguing. Fox News edited out Trump’s comments blaming Letitia James for driving Exxon out of New York. There’s a story there, we just don’t know what.

Habba again remarks on how long this litigation has lasted, saying to Engoron, “we’ve all wasted -— you and me, Your Honor -— years.” Engoron stops short of agreeing with her, but slowly repeats the word “years” into his microphone.

You’re getting the flavor of this. Trump is grandstanding, he’s been denied the right to do closing arguments — not that he would have anyhow. The man has a history of saying he will testify in court and then not doing so. And the rest of them are doing soundbites for Fox News and Newsmax.

We will post another piece when this matter concludes today.

  1. Trump is certainly right about one thing. Engoron didn’t let him speak because he would have said things the judge didn’t want to hear! Damn straight ’cause he’s heard it all before and Trump just drops in the same old tape and pushes play! And, Engoron knows that Trump doesn’t understand anything about the law except how to break it!
