This is so demented, but it fits right in with what we know of the political landscape these days. Jim Jordan vowed that he had all kinds of high powered whistleblowers that were going to expose the Deep State plot against Donald Trump in the Department of Justice. He was going to televise these hearings and it was going to be epic, must see TV. That endeavor has embarrassingly fallen on its ass. Jordan’s star witness turned out to be a joke. Rolling Stone:

IN EARLY FEBRUARY, Republicans brought an FBI veteran to Capitol Hill whom they hoped would expose a “deep state conspiracy” among Democrats and their accomplices in the intelligence community. The GOP witness was part of a network of “whistleblowers” — funneled to congressional Republicans’ new Weaponization of Government panel by allies of Donald Trump — to reveal covert attacks on the former president and broad, anti-conservative discrimination.

But before the interview was over, it was the GOP witness who was failing to answer difficult questions — and Democratic committee staff doing the asking.

In the interview, the witness, former FBI supervisory intelligence analyst George Hill, had admitted he had little or no firsthand knowledge of alleged “deep state” scandals. Instead, he brought baggage of his own: a history of inflammatory commentary on social media. Democratic staff had found a tweet in which Hill claimed former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) had “blood on her hands.” In a since-deleted tweet found by Rolling Stone, Hill wrote “Cancer! GO FASTER!” in response to a tweet from Rep. Lauren Boebert claiming that President Biden had been diagnosed with cancer.

Boebert is utterly irresponsible, in addition to being stick, stone stupid. Maybe what she’s got confused is a small skin cancer that Jill Biden had removed recently.

This took place July 20, 2022.

No, Joe Biden does not have cancer, unless Lauren Boebert has the exclusive scoop and his doctors don’t.

Back to Mr. Hill: this shows his motivation for being on Jordan’s whistle blowing team. He hates Joe Biden. He has zero evidence of any plot, Deep State or otherwise, against Trump, he just wants to lash out at the current administration. Unfortunately, that’s not working too well for him and these hearings that Jordan thought would be televised, big deals, designed to make Watergate coverage pale by comparison, are nothing but a farce.

But so far, Republicans have brought only three of those whistleblowers to Capitol Hill for questioning, and have not scheduled any additional interviews after completing the most recent in mid-February. In the interviews conducted to date, witnesses have offered contradictory responses, maintained fringe and violent online presences that undermine their credibility, andfailed to demonstrate first-hand knowledge of alleged FBI wrongdoing.

The results have left Democrats gleeful and even some Republicans deeply unimpressed. A “dumpster fire,” is how one Democrat with knowledge of the at-times combative interactions terms the proceedings. “Clearly there is room to grow and improve before [more] public hearings,” a Republican familiar with the process tells Rolling Stone. But the work so far, the Republican says, has been “very much amateur hour,” adding that airing this “stuff on live television would make us look like morons.” (Sources spoke on the condition of anonymity to speak candidly about the sensitive matters.)

So much for Jim Jordan’s attempt to use the investigatory powers of the House to expose ruinous corruption on the part of the Department of Justice. I wonder, just out of sheer curiosity, if any attempt at actual governance is going to come out of this legislative session or if it’s all going to be revenge theater, nonstop, until 2024?

  1. “I wonder, just out of sheer curiosity, if any attempt at actual governance is going to come out of this legislative session or if it’s all going to be revenge theater, nonstop, until 2024?”

This WAS a rhetorical question, right? Not a question that really requires an answer?

  2. Glad you mentioned Watergate because I think that’s the motivation for most everything they’ve done since. They HATED getting their fingers caught in the cookie jar and they’ve never gotten over it. Their need for revenge feeds the nasty words and deeds we get from them. Shame and humiliation is behind the ‘shameless’ behavior they exhibit, just like unrecovered alcoholics, which is a theme I’ve thought often about. The repugs so often act like drunks: mean, nasty, self-absorbed, reactionary, blaming, shaming. Maybe we need some kind of 12-step program for repugs.

  3. In their bubble, these sound like slam-dunks.
Trouble is, when they hold these hearings, non-batcrap crazy folks, usually with a (D) next to their names, get to ask questions too. That’s when the wheels fall off faster than on a Toyota BZ4-X

    • Yes, indeed. And Jill had a similar procedure done. That’s not what Boebert is talking about. She’s talking about “cancer” in the alarmist sense, as in life threatening and that’s what this dummy who interviewed with Jordan is cheering on, is Biden’s demise.
