What a relief. Benny Thompson and Liz Cheney just issued the following statement, with respect to individuals whose documentation and testimony have been subpoenaed by the January 6 Select Committee. Where things stand as of now, Steve Bannon is saying he will not cooperate with the committee and the committee is talking about holding him in criminal contempt. This could get hot and sticky as the Florida Everglades.

A lawyer for Bannon, Robert Costello, told the committee on Thursday that Bannon would refuse to comply because of Trump’s claim that he can invoke executive privilege to block Bannon’s testimony.
“Until these issues are resolved, we are unable to respond to your request for documents and testimony,” Costello wrote to the Jan. 6 committee. Costello’s letter was first reported by The New York Times; POLITICO reported on Thursday that Trump had instructed Bannon and other former aides subpoenaed by the select panel not to comply with lawmakers’ demands.
It’s a questionable claim from Bannon’s lawyer, because the ex-Trump aide was years removed from the White House by the time the former president’s attempt to overturn the 2020 election — the subject of the committee’s subpoena — began in earnest. Executive privilege is typically reserved for a president’s closest advisers and not meant to be a broad shield for testimony requests.
Any move by the Jan. 6 committee to hold a witness in criminal contempt would first require the panel to vote on a contempt resolution. That resolution would then move to the House floor for a vote.
If they had nothing to hide there would be no issue of testifying, right?
Just arrest them.

Call me cynical but the word “consider” gives me pause. WTF is there to consider? These assholes spent years ignoring Congressional subpoenas and as far as I know Trump never, not ONCE even formally invoked Executive Privilege. Tweeting it doesn’t count legally. Is there anyone on that committee, in Congress or the entire country that thinks at least some of these asshole will point to a tweet of Trump’s or one of his missives on that stationary he uses to pretend he’s still President as ordering them to say they won’t cooperate due to EP? That freaking committee should be prepared to vote right away if someone doesn’t show up or produce documents. As in the day after the deadline for document production or that very day if someone doesn’t show up for a hearing.
As for Scavino and his hiding out to avoid a subpoena for the life of me I can’t understand why the entire Democratic Party isn’t MAKING FUN OF HIM! This could be a fun for the whole (Democratic) family game trying to outdo each other. The possibilities are endless. Right off the top of my head the use of chicken themed stuff jumps to mind. I don’t twitter but I assume that logo is supposed to be little bird chirping. Use something with a CHICKEN to create meme(s) with a statement about him hiding out like a the coward he is! Maybe even with sound effects of squawking out words like “Trump will be mad if I testify” for example. Or person in one of those chicken suits wearing a sign around their neck saying “I’m not Dan Scavino.” Come up with your own. This stuff of course can go on social media other than twitter. FB for damned sure. Now that I think about it this type of thing should have been taking place ever since it became clear Scavino was avoiding service of the subpoena. At some point even the media would have to have started covering the better viral memes mocking him.
Something like assholes and idiots flock together. Scavino is hiding in that abortion in which Trump lives in Florida, Mar-a-Largo or one of his hotels. Media have been so scared by the Internet that they have lost their way and forgotten how to do journalism, much less investigative journalism.
Today many fathers across the land, with no job, will be led out of family court in handcuffs, some with leg irons, due to contempt of court for failure to pay child support. These criminals thumb their noses again? And you want respect for our nation of laws? ARE U FUCKING SERIOUS OR JUST A STUPID HYPOCRITE? Ask urselves that as u pay for 2.3 million citizens locked up as I type.
Bannon’s lawyer is giving him bad advice. Time for another referral for disbarrment.
The committee should not “consider” charges, The should just send out the marshals and throw his butt in jail to stew until the truth is made clear that executive privilege, as determined in the case of Watergate, does not apply to acts by or in behalf of a president as CANDIDATE for office, and not associated with his actual role as presidency. If Dems don’t stop being too nice, no useful lessons will come out of this whole sorry episode. Rethugs must learn that there are, indeed, consequences, and they will no longer be excused for their atrocities. Biden’s refusal to allow privilege over the relevant documents should be a fairly strong signal.
