Bruce Springsteen has always been aware of the pressing issues of his time, even to the point of bringing up unaddressed topics of his own, ones desperately needing to be addressed – in particular, Vietnam Vets, and AIDS victims, long before many others did. He is a leader, and he’s also old enough to have very few fcks to give these days. He has his money, sure – but much more importantly, he has credibility to a degree normally associated only with the dead. It is for that reason that he is speaking out while on tour in Europe. And he continues to do so even though Trump has already “warned” an “overrated” Bruce Springsteen (We see your Kid Rock and raise you a Boss.), that he best keep his mouth shut.

To review, Trump had just posted this two days ago:

Bruce Springsteen has 17 platinum albums.Donald Trump has 6 golden bankruptcies.

Now, no doubt that Bruce has the lawyers and the social support to withstand Trump and his “We’ll see how that goes for him” – probably more than any politician could want. Please note that we have to discuss people’s personal security now, as it is juxtaposed against a president with a love of “revenge” and the corrupt willingness to use the government machinery to wear down perceived enemies. This is what makes all of this worth covering.

Speaking of which, Bruce is not cowering. Indeed, just two days after Trump shit-posted his dire warning, Springsteen was back at it as heard below. (I set out the transcript below)

“Things are happening right now that are altering the very nature of our country’s democracy, and they’re too important to ignore. In America, my home, they’re persecuting people for their right to free speech and voicing their dissent. That’s happening now. In America, the richest men are taking satisfaction in abandoning the world’s poorest children to sickness and death. That’s happening now.

“In my country, they’re taking sadistic pleasure in the pain they inflict on loyal American workers. They’re rolling back historic civil rights legislation that led to a more just society. They’re abandoning our great allies and siding with dictators against those who are struggling for their freedom. That’s happening now…

“… They have utterly failed to protect the American people from the abuses of an unfit president and a rogue government. That’s happening now.”

So there is some real criticism of Trump and those in government who have failed to stop the Trump abuses. No one can do a thing about an American public re-electing Trump. The GOP Congress damned sure could keep Trump from wantonly firing ATC controllers and national park rangers or keep him from accepting gifts from the world’s worst despotic leaders.

As per usual, Bruce is spot on in his public priorities and willingness to address the most pressing issues of the day. Unusually, however, Springsteen will now have to worry about an American government controlled by a controlling man – one that might bear down on Bruce in the near future. It is not stopping the man who was born in the U.S.A. and was born to run anyway.

Zoomers, we are always in need of donations. It’s been an especially rough month, and my own health has not been great these past few weeks, which just adds to the frustration. Anything you can spare will be immensely appreciated. And thank you to all who have donated generously already. Ursula

  2. and it was at the Co-operative Arena in Manchester, NW England, the birthplace of both the Industrial Revolution and the Trade Union Movement. Google the Peterloo Massacre to get a perspective of early Manchester. Well done and well said.
