Horst Wessel was an obscure member of the Nazi party when he was killed in his room during a brawl in the Berlin slums. Joseph Goebbels decided to elevate him to the rank of martyr and later it was said about Wessel, “He served the party far better in death than as a pimp in the ghetto.” Ashli Babbitt will go on to serve the party of her fuhrer, Donald Trump, far better in death than she ever could have done posting on Facebook.

Today was a remarkable day in congress. Four police officers who endured every form of insult and injury while protecting the Capitol on January 6 testified about those events. The lid is off and the truth is coming about. In order to staunch this flow of information, the right-wing MAGA portion of the GOP is doing everything humanly possible to depict what happened at the Capitol as the failure of Nancy Pelosi to prepare. That, and elevating the martyred status of Ashli Babbitt, are the only tools it has, evidently, to keep the events of January 6 from being correctly characterized, which was an insurrection incited by Donald Trump.

Paul Gosar had Babbitt’s mother speak at the Arizona rally last weekend and she’s fully on board for this. Babbitt died as the consequences of her own actions, not because she was murdered with impunity.

But that’s only part of the issue here. The big issue is that the Big Lie is embraced by so much of the GOP and this is the Rubicon for so many. Elise Stefanik has already crossed he Rubicon and come down on the wrong side of history. That’s sad, considering she was viewed as a shining light for the future of the GOP. If you missed this clip, where Stefanik squares off against Liz Cheney, it is memorable. No doubt the day will come when Stefanik will look back on it herself as a turning point.

And if you thought things couldn’t get any worse, you would have been wrong. Look at what Laura Ingraham has done.

I think Fox News may be playing this one wrong. Going against law enforcement and against officers who are regarded as American heroes for their role defending the Capitol is not a good move. That said, it seems to be the hard line that the right-wing is taking. Hoe kay. We’ll see where this leads, but it goes against every bit of political common sense. Throwing law enforcement under the same bus as the commie leftist radicals is not a shrewd move.

On the other hand, Officer Michael Fanone is reporting that the Fraternal Order Of Police has not come forward to back up the 140 officers who were injured or killed in the insurrection. Maybe that’s how this is going to play out, as some bizarre form of good cop bad cop.

  2. We’re living in Germany during the late 20’s. We must stand up, speak out against all that these idiots are doing or we’re in deep doo doo. Ashley Babbitt was an insurrectionist. She was not murdered – and we all stand by that. She was attacking the capital and attempting to get into an area that was guarded. She was warned. What……because she was a white bitch she wasn’t to be touched?

  3. Mrs Babbitt, your daughter was an adult who died while attempting to overthrow the U.S. Government, while it was doing its mandated duty. She isn’t a martyr, she’s a dead insurrectionist. The current hearings in Congress are looking at what happened, so pay attention and learn.

    • She was a VIOLENT insurrectionist attempting to break into a place where she didn’t belong, and quite possibly intended violence toward both capital police (who warned her to stay back) and the rightful occupants of the building. She had already broken a window, and was trying to force her way in. If she had gotten in, it is possible that more of the violent mob would have followed, and caused injuries or death to innocent parties.

Ms. Babbitt, if you have any other children you’d better make sure they learn this lesson well: when you participate in an insurrection against your own federal government, do not be surprised when you lose your life. I tried dredging up some pity but I have no more f*cks to give. Your daughter was part and parcel of a group dead set on destroying our democracy and if possible, killing members of congress. There is no defense for her actions and law enforcement risked, and lost, their lives.

    Nope. No more to give.
