Another lifelong Republican has decided to put country over party and I say good for her. I anticipate that she is just one more in what will be a long line of former Trump world staffers to come out in favor of Joe Biden. New York Times:
Olivia Troye, the former top homeland security aide to Vice President Mike Pence, endorsed former Vice President Joseph R. Biden Jr. on Thursday and accused President Trump of weak leadership and of dramatically mismanaging the response to the coronavirus crisis.
In an ad released online, Ms. Troye recounts hearing the president — who has spoken about his phobia of germs — say in a meeting that he was glad that the virus had arrived in the United States, because it meant he would no longer have to shake hands with people he said he considered “disgusting.”
The takeaway here, and it is the same takeaway when any of these former White House staffers have come forward, is that while it is the “honor of a lifetime” to serve in the White House, that is not the case in this travesty of a White House. I can only hope that Republicans will listen to this. Democrats saw this coming from day one. If there are any Republicans that need to be persuaded, then I hope this will do it.

Will she keep voting Democratic? I didn’t like John McCain because he voted against milk money for poor kids, it wasn’t because he was a loser that was shot down. Let us hope she realizes at some point that Democrats promote the Constitution and Republicans pervert and suppress the Constitution.
Let’s hope she and the others come to that understanding.
I have watched many of these RVAT testimonials. I find them sincere, well expressed, often extremely eloquent. They lift my spirits, and I suspect they are far more effective in convincing a certain kind of Republican to vote for Biden, than the Lincoln Project ads. But one thing they are NOT about is Republicans becoming Democrats. They’re still Republicans, and the light they’re seeing is not the Democratic Party, but Country over Party. So in answer to your question, I think these people will continue voting Democratic as long as the Trumpists are in power. They hate Trump not only for what he’s doing to the country but also for what he’s done to the Republican Party. If the old-style conservatives get control of the party again, they will stop voting for Democrats.
So Trump doesn’t want to shake hands with us disgusting people. Well, the feelings mutual, bud.
Unfortunately Ursula, I’m gonna have to disagree with you on the “bombshell” word in the headline. I don’t think ANYTHING at this point is a bombshell, in that it won’t sway a single Trump vote. It is a cult, and just like Jim jones’ people found a reason to drink Kool Aid and Scientologists find a reason to justify whatever they do, so too all those “disgusting” people will find some justification to vote for the second coming of JC. He didn’t really say it, he said it but didn’t mean it – whatever. They are incapable of caring, or they will say fine, but he still gives us what we want (judges, better economy. whatever). In short, in any other presidency this would be a bombshell. But here, sadly, crickets.
What you say is true of the great majority of Trump voters, they are a cult, but it’s not true of all Trump voters whether Republicans or independents. Some of the them can be won over, just as these folks were, they just need encouragement that the misgivings they have are well grounded and shared by others. And that small percentage of extra Biden votes, or perhaps just non-Trump votes, will make a big difference, because even in the swing states Trump won in 2016, he won by very narrow margins.
I can only say thank you and hope other people see it also! As a Canadian with close family in the US his inactions have had a huge effect on our lives! It’s bean almost one year since we have seen our American grandchildren! What shocks me still is that despite losing the popular vote, he still won the presidency! Is there another country on earth that the person with the most votes loses? I am not saying Hillary would have been better, but she at least had some experience of government! I really hope Americans don’t make the same mistake twice! Biden may not be the best the Democrats have, but we know he had experience! Just my 2 cents worth!

For God’s sake, this animus against Hillary is absolutely ridiculous. She had far more experience and background for the job than any other candidate. You say she wasn’t likable, personable or pleasant? What second of the last four years have you seen tRump be any of those things, let alone be presidential? We could have had a competent, experienced leader, and while she might have been hamstrung by the obstructionists in the Senate (as Obama was), at least we wouldn’t have been exposed daily to the obscenity, incompetence, grifting, chaos, dangers, sheer stupidity and insanity that have prevailed since 1/20/17. And we would not now have 200,000 dead Americans. Stop with the Hillary bashing already.
