While he was alive, Nelson Mandela was given the name “Tata” (father of the nation). He was South Africa’s first democratically elected president after spending imprisoned on Robben Island where he became the world’s most famous political prisoner, SouthAfrica.Net reports. The great man died at 95 at his home on December 5, 2013. He was buried at Qunu, his ancestral home, in the Eastern Cape.
I’m sure if he were able to, Mandela would be spinning in his grave if he found out Alina Habba, possibly the most inept lawyer in American history, was comparing Donald Trump to him.
But on Tuesday, Habba upped the absurdity by saying that if Trump is jailed for violating a limited gag order imposed on him in his hush-money criminal trial, he would “be like Nelson Mandela,” The Daily Beast reports.
I told you this was absurd.
And she said this with a straight face. Mandela spent decades in prison as an anti-apartheid activist. She’s comparing this to Trump’s recent rhetoric when all the tangerine scream has done is spend decades eating hamberders and sitting on a solid gold toilet. Trump is trying to portray himself as a martyr but he’s got a long haul ahead of him, to approach anything close to what Mandela went through.
Habba uttered this embarrassment of embarrassing riches during an appearance on Fox News’ The Story with Martha MacCallum. She was asked about Trump’s recent social media posts and if the threat of doing a stint in jail and dealing with fines would stop further online attacks from the ex-president.
“i don’t think so,” habba responded. “i think that he’s respectful but there have to be boundaries and i think we should appeal it—it is currently on appeal. so there’s also a due process element to this. we have items on appeal in this case that have not been heard.”
But MacCallum was looking for a more direct answer, so she wondered whether Trump was worried about a possible stint in prison if he continued to ignore the gag order.
“no,” miss “I’d rather be pretty than smart” responded. “I think like anybody he’s concerned about going to jail, but if they put him in jail for his first amendment rights, he will be like nelson mandela! i mean, that would be just absurd and, frankly, it would win him the election.”
All of this hoo-haa from Habba is the result of a court filing Tuesday when the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office asked Judge Juan Merchan to hold Trump in contempt for repeatedly using social media to disparage two of the criminal trial’s key witnesses—former Trump fixer Michael Cohen and former adult film actress Stormy Daniels. Merchan has imposed a gag order that prohibits Trump from publicly attacking trial witnesses, and family members of the judge and prosecutors.
Prosecutors have pressed Merchan to fine Trump $3,000 for his latest Truth Social posts where he attacked Cohen and Daniels, and they have also asked the judge to warn the ex-president that he could face as much as 30 days in jail for any further violations of the gag order. Merchan has also accused Trump of trying to intimidate jurors during the trial on Tuesday.
Besides urging Merchan to fine Trump $3,000 for his latest Truth Social posts slamming Cohen and Daniels, prosecutors also asked the judge to warn the former president that he could face up to 30 days in jail for any further violations of the gag order. In addition to the prosecution’s motion, Merchan also accused Trump of attempting to intimidate jurors during Tuesday’s proceedings.
Trump has legions of lackeys and sycophants, with Habba among them. All she was doing is parroting what she’d already heard him exclaim. As the multiple criminal cases continue to gain steam, he has repeatedly compared himself to Mandela, whom I’d think would be greatly insulted.
“i will gladly become a modern day nelson mandela — it will be my great honor,” trump bragged on truth social earlier this month.
But see, this is what Trump does. He surrounds himself with ignorant people who couldn’t possibly know any better. Their ignorance makes him look better by comparison.
Or so he thinks. It’s just sad to see that Alina Habba is a high-powered lawyer with not much upstairs. Hopefully, her ineptness will help her boss get convicted.
