We’re in the dog days of the 2022 midterm primaries. And as such, the rhetoric is flying hot and heavy, especially on the GOP side.

On the Democratic side, candidates are laying out actual positions and agendas, laying out a roadmap for the future. And on the GOP side, everybody is rolling around in a Godsmack mosh pit, with everybody trying to out-Trump each other to earn his blessings going into November.

And since the GOP pie-fight is the one that garnishes the most attention, that’s the one that’s getting the most attention in the primary election night media coverage. Why talk about sane Democrats when you can talk about insane Republicans preaching The Big Lie and toting AR-15’s to Blow away the Democrats!

But remember one thing. The primaries are purely deep base turnout events. And so are the GOP state or region conferences that you’re hearing about. It is not representative of the true opinion of the larger GOP.

For instance, if you’ve been watching, you saw Texas Senator John Cornyn show up to speak at a Texas GOP convention this weekend, only to be roundly booed when his name was announced. But any GOP convention is nothing more than a collection of the purest base of the party.

And Cornyn has been in the Senate, and in politics for too long to fall for that. Polling shows that sensible gun control is popular with 67% of GOP voters in the state. He isn’t going to be diverted from doing what’s right and politically wise by a handful of rockheads.

My point is, take these GOP primaries for what they are, the purest Trump base licking their nuts. And do the same with the Republican state Convention straw polls for 2024 that you see coming out. Ask yourself one simple question. Would you trust any pollster who who based their results on one homogenous sample group? Yeah, neither would I.

  1. Cornyn is already playing the “I’m walking away” game in response to the Democrats already weak tea proposal.

If he and other GOPpers vote yea it will be to a bill so limp as to be meaningless. He and Yurtle are just setting up a show vote to present to voters in the fall.

  2. The democrats should have known after all these years the ‘pubes working with them on the very little being put forward for gun control legislation were going to walk away before anything was accomplished. It isn’t as if they have not seen this exact behavior before. The dems should have put forward the strictest legislation they could and that would get most of the dems on board and told the ‘pubes to “get f*cked”. It would have done them no harm and would have put the ‘pubes in the position of demonstrating they only caring for the gun lobby and do not care one iota for our nation’s children. As it is now the dems look like waffling losers before the mid-terms. Way to secure a weak position right before an election guys!

As long as we only have two parties, and that is effectively what we have, in this country and one party wants to remove democracy from the equation and the other won’t do anything meaningful, or intelligent, to stop them, we are well and truly f*cked.
