Hello Darkness our old friend. Today is one of those days where we are hearing echoes from the past and not happy ones. In life it’s possible to kill somebody only once, but in politics you can keep killing them over and over again, amazingly. Kevin McCarthy saw his way clear to put a knife in Liz Cheney’s back last year when he decided that she should lose her number three leadership role in the GOP conference. That was wrong then and it’s wrong now.
But now, we see McCarthy proving the adage, two wrongs don’t make a right, because he keeps going after Cheney. This time he went the extra mile to endorse Harriet Hageman, Cheney’s opponent in the Republican primary in Wyoming.
This is an extraordinary measure for a leader to take, to get involved in a congressional primary. McCarthy knows it’s extraordinary. He’s obviously doing it for one of two reasons, or maybe both: 1) Trump told him to do it; 2) He is so enamored of the Cult of Trump and believes so strongly that it will endure and democracy won’t that he thinks it’s his duty to off Trump’s enemies.
In any event, the matter is not setting well with other Republicans. Here’s Adam Kinzinger’s take on it and it is biting.

Here, Schmidt lays it out. There is nothing wrong with wanting to know what happened on January 6 and making efforts to find that out does not and should not cause somebody to be labeled a RINO.
But then again, if you’re looking at it from Kevin McCarthy’s perspective and you believe that your interests are aligned with the interests of covering up what Trump did that day, so that he can get reelected maybe, then of course you want things to remain covered up.
Liz Cheney voted for Trump but the insurrection was the bridge too far. That’s where she could not go with him. McCarthy has no such line in the sand. McCarthy will follow his Fuhrer wherever he can for the pay off that’s in it.
And that’s why I say, “Hello Darkness, our old friend,” because this is how it happened in Poland back in the day. This is how it happened in Germany. People who were presumably raised morally — and McCarthy knows Trump was wrong, he said so himself on January 6 — decide that the teachings of youth are no longer anywhere near as relevant to them as the possession of power. That is their drug, their idol, their God.
And that’s why McCarthy continues to follow Trump. That’s why they all do. Because he represents power and for that they’ll sell their souls. McCarthy has sold his. If McCarthy believed in democracy, he would respect Cheney for doing what she’s doing. All she’s doing is investigating and fact finding. But McCarthy is far more in love with power.
This is what fascism looks like. This is how it always begins.
It will be interesting to see if his new district likes him as much as the old one.
How do these people, McCarthy and the rest of these cult followers sleep at night? I just can’t wrap my head around these people who say J6 was a “peaceful protest”. Are you kidding me?? We all saw it, we saw how the Capitol was breached! I sure hope by years end, Trump and family are in prison along with everyone involved in the insurection, because that’s exactly what it was!!!
How do they sleep? Well, probably the two things which prevent their sleep are fear of being discovered for the traitors they ARE and fear of not being able to pull it all off and gain total power. Ethical egoists, making moral choices based upon what benefits THEM. Not “US”, THEM. Other than fear of failure, he sleeps as well as Jack Daniels permits.
If we manage to hold onto the house, all of Qevin’s machinations will be for naught. I really think they are deluded if they think following the Orange One is the path to power. He’s never had any coattails and most of his endorsed candidates are way behind in fundraising. They may retake the House, but it won’t be because of TFG. Which means, if they are the majority, Qevin won’t be Speaker. All of that groveling and in the end all he’ll have to show for it is a worn-out pair of knee pads.
To the folks asking how McCarthy and the rest can sleep, I’ve heard that a combination of booze and sleeping pills can do wonders. You just gotta be careful about too much of either if you want to wake up.

They all lined up to suckle since rump made it look effortless when he was a medium sized fish in a NY pond.But then he jumped the shark and ended up in the white house where he figured he could just keep on being himself. Hope they all go down in flames.
I was once trapped by a blizzard near Boone. I was in a Vietnam vets house, a man I didn’t know. He had lost his platoon & he was the only survivor. His version of sleep included a bottle of vodka & heroin. In other words he never ‘slept’, he just passed out. His problem was having survivors guilt. Kevin sleeps just fine. He has no conscience. Helpful if ur a sociopath.
Sometimes you have to give credit to these dumb donkeys, they have made stupidity a Republican ICON, being dumber than a hunk of granite, continuously, minute to minute, saying out loud how they love their failed GOP, the snake at Mar-O-Golf as a team Mascot, who really should fly his own flags with an actual Cobra snake at full strike position …
Following the world’s biggest loser down that slippery funnel to hell, cannot end well for anyone on that same bus, getting off now, is probably too late … the Jan, 06, Committee, goes on with a compendium of evidence like never before, names, dates and places …
We ARE so close to huge attacks on our Democracy, uncertain financial security, health risks by the un-vaccinated, what could possibly go wrong now … Oh yea, Russia …
Why on earth would McCarthy have trouble sleeping? Why would anyone think that he might have trouble sleeping? In order for one’s conscience to keep one awake, one must first HAVE a conscience.
While I agree with all the comments regarding king tRUMP, the real problem is his ilk is, they’re winning. The GOP is set to gain majority of both houses and setup to crown the rump. Why? Two people: the munchkin from West Virginia and ding dong sennica from Arizona. Both have acted like rumpers and destroyed progress for the American people. Both are afraid to ask the super wealthy to pay their fair share in taxes, including the corporate giants. These two have embarrassed President Biden and made his vision a nightmare. Mr munchkin owns a coal company for god’s sake and is super wealthy. There is nothing in the build back better platform that serves HIM (kind of rumpian). And I have no idea what planet sennica came from or what she’s smoking, but she clearly is a huge republican in disguise.
Bottom line: the democrats are in deep dodo mainly because of these two turn coats.
