I think the most important analysis of this comes from Mary Trump. She initially said that Donald Trump would not run again in 2024 because he didn’t want to set himself up or another loss. She then changed that opinion when she said that he would run in 2024 if he felt the Republican party could rig the system enough to where he would win. And they have utilized the census data to achieve that very result by reconfiguring the voting map.
And the fact of the matter is, rigged system or not he might just declare himself the winner anyway. That’s what he did in 2020 at Rudy Giuliani’s behest and that was the birth of the stolen election, a conspiracy theory that has eclipsed his Obama birther conspiracy and that was pernicious enough.
We are in dark and treacherous waters, as Sherlock Holmes would put it. We need to be prepared for the worst. Because the worst is yet to come. (And I can’t wait to see what Kimberly and Junior do for an encore after their last performance at the RNC, live from the summit of Mt. Bake. I will take that image to the grave.)
Wasn’t there a time years ago when the Heritage Foundation was a responsible organ of conservative analysis? Now that time has definitely passed. I can’t think of a single GOP think tank that hasn’t become a mindless shill for the Big Lie and the January 6 insurrection. I would be glad to be proven wrong, however: Does anyone out there know of a responsible, sober conservative foundation or think tank?
You’re making this comment in the wrong thread. I join you in being shocked at this 180 degree turn on the part of the Heritage Foundation. This is frightening. If the intellectual and philosophical underpinnings of the GOP are gone, then I guess MAGA and the mob is it. Jesus. I knew it was bad, but I honestly thought that the establishment Republicans would shut this down at some point in time.
Even “Establishment Republicans” are gung-ho for a permanent “conservative”, authoritarian, “Xian taliban”. It’s what they DO. Ethical Egoists make moral choices based upon what benefits THEM, or what they perceive will benefit them. They figure having absolute power will permit them to personally profit from every aspect of life. There are no “guard rails” and there are no “sane Republicans”. Those brains have been eaten by the virus of “trumpism”.
