Holy Zacharia, Batman! The lengths of tenures of MAGA officials keeps getting shorter. Anthony Scaramucci held the record for 11 days, the shortest tenure of a Trump official, then Katie Zacharia broke it with her five days on the job. Now Britt McHenry, a former ESPN reporter has broken Zacharia’s record, resigning her State Department post one day after she was promoted to it. The Mirror:
The former ESPN reporter was reportedly forced to resign from working for Donald Trump on Thursday after video showed her throwing a drink toward a spectator at the Washington Wizards’ home opener one night earlier. McHenry left one day after she was reportedly promoted to lead External Affairs and Press for Under Secretary Jacob Helberg’s team.
NBA fans booed as she left the seating section, with some tossing rally towels, as she waved and blew kisses toward the crowd. One insider called it, “promoted and fired in 24 hours.”
The State Department wouldn’t comment on the full scale of the situation or why she left the game early despite an exciting Wizards 1-0 team that has the pieces to contend after their last playoff appearance in 2020.
Maybe we could do a ballad about the Fox News blondes who are not quite ready for prime time. I’m not clear on why McHenry resigned and The Mirror doesn’t hold forth any detail on the subject. One presumes that she figured she would get fired but maybe not in Trump world. Or maybe this was J.D. Vance once again playing watch dog and doing the firing. How I wish I could have been a fly on Vance’s wall during the Katie Zacharia exit interview.
In any event, the rightful heir to the Scaramucci trophy appears to be Britt McHenry. Sorry Katie, October just doesn’t seem to be your month.
