Talk about toxic cherry picking, you’re about to see an incredible example of it. Donald Trump is commenting on the vile ad that Vivek Ramaswamy is running to take down Amy Acton, his opponent for the Ohio governorship. The ad features Acton’s estranged birth mother trashing Acton, even though the two haven’t had any regular contact since Acton was an adolescent. Trump ignores that part of it and gives Acton’s mother the same stature as though she were mother of the year — and not some woman who married a man who then sexually molested her daughter.
This is the man Republicans who are on the ballot worship, praise and revere. Vote them out. https://t.co/Vp71vHSOBY

A man hears what he wants to hear and disregards the rest, the poet tells us. That’s what Trump has done here. Trump totally ignores the crucial context of this case, which is that “mother” is not an all-inclusive term. Mother can mean anything, and in this case it means estranged, birth mother only, not mom in the sense of somebody who raised Acton and has been in her corner everyday.
Trump, however, is just fine with Ramaswamy’s vile ad and Ramaswamy himself merely shrugs it off with the comment that politics is sometimes a rough sport. He also calls Acton “flawed” because she was a victim of sexual abuse, as though she had any control over that situation. It is Ramaswamy who is the flawed candidate here. Let us hope the voters hand him his hat, although Ohio hasn’t had a Democratic governor since 2006.
