This is ridiculous. Hegseth keeps making radical changes in the military that are unnecessary, changes “allowed” religions (really?!), doesn’t care about our people on the water or overseas, pretends he’s a macho manly man, and creates military spectacles that are unnecessary. His leadership, such as it is, has been embarrassing, and a lot of people are rethinking even joining. This is not a surprise. It wasn’t a surprise on his first day.
So he decides to try to show off an Air Force team before a football game. There doesn’t seem to be any particular reason *why*; he just decided. Before a football game. You expect that among events such as the Indy 500. You don’t expect it for a football game. Was he invited, or did he invite himself? Interesting question. There doesn’t appear to be an answer, at least not yet. He may not have been there at all. Either way, the stunt wasn’t needed. It’s a football game. How many people cared about his exhibition?
The entire country knows about the military and the Forever War. They read the news, or they hear it from friends and neighbors. The topics these days are Trump or the war (and midterms occasionally). It would be difficult *not* to know anything about the military.
The people at that football game saw something no one should have to see in America. With gratitude for Raw Story:
An Air Force service member died after falling from the roof of the Alamodome during a pregame demonstration at a college football game in San Antonio on Saturday. Critics quickly turned their anger on Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth. Videos shared online appeared to show the airman losing control while on the rope and falling to the field in front of thousands of fans. He was treated on the field for about 10 minutes and taken to a local hospital, where he died, according to the Post.
Okay, this was a planned thing, not meaning the fall. This is a reminder to read the entire article before writing about it. The comments about Hegseth still apply. I also don’t have the energy to start over.
It was reportedly part of the school’s “Salute to Armed Forces and Veterans” game, and four military personnel were descending from the stadium’s 170-foot rafters.
Talk about traumatizing. It’s bad enough reading about it. Movies and video games are one thing, but actuality? No. There was a car accident I could have been part of, but wasn’t, and people were badly injured. I avoid that intersection more than 10 years later. But everyone lived. That’s the closest I’ve come, and it’s more than enough. But all those fans, oof. It’s unimaginable.
Okay, this went seriously sideways. From Hegseth to someone losing their life before a football game to the horrifying accident I witnessed. Tomorrow will be better. My apologies. Hegseth still needs to get gone.
Friends, I know everybody begs you for money. I promise you that, of all the outlets bugging you for spare change, we are the smallest and the hardest-working. We’re a bunch of old, disabled people, except for one writer in his mid-50s. But the rest of us are in our sixties and seventies, and this is a labor of love. All we’re asking for is the ability to continue our quest to tell the truth about Trump and help ensure democracy survives. If you can help, please do. Thank you. Ursula
