Someone noticed she was playing fast and loose, trying to charge people for “vandalism” of the Reflecting Pool. It turns out the problem was in no way caused by anyone touching pieces of the liner that floated to the top. There was a grand jury empaneled for David Hearn, the Olympian, on the supposed evidence that he tore a 2’ x 2’ piece of the liner loose.
There are many, many problems with that. How does someone tear a piece of the liner loose in exactly those dimensions? He supposedly tore loose a piece of the liner that was exactly that size, and it was repeated. 2’ x 2’. How did he get to the liner to tear it when he was in bicycling clothes? There’s only about a place to put ID and maybe some cash. There’s certainly nowhere to hide a box cutter, which he must have used, because 2’ x 2’.
Then there’s the bit about having cameras on the pool 24/7/365. If he tore this exact size, why didn’t the cameras show him doing so? Remember, no place to hide a box cutter or a piece of the liner. As a matter of fact, Trump screaming about vandals and cutting the liner in this 300’ long slice in the middle should show on the cameras. Show us the proof, boyo. And show us the proof, Jeanine.
Now we get to the fun part. Ms. Pirro is being accused of misconduct. It seems she may have been coaching the single witness who appeared before the grand jury. This is big and bad. This witness said the liner was coming up already. But he put a value of more than $1,000 on the David Hearn piece, which he had *not* said before, because, funny how these things happen, that amount makes it a felony. Hmmmm. Is a 2’ x 2 section of the big, long pool liner worth more than a thousand bucks? Only if it’s gold-plated (Trump would love that) or if it was one of the people who did the whole thing, because they had a lot of overruns and the total cost ballooned. And there was no bid for this, either.
More than $1,000 is a felony. She must have really been stretching for that one. She tried to take down an Olympian, which would cause an uproar even before the grand jury. She managed to generate a case against him. A felony case. For a piece of the liner. A *small* piece, all things considered.
Here are some details, with thanks to Raw Story:
The letter’s section on misconduct at the Justice Department carries Pirro’s name in its heading. It says the only damages witness Pirro’s office put before the grand jury first testified that the pool already had substantial damage and that the same repairs would have been needed anyway. That 1,000 amount is the line between a misdemeanor and a felony that carries up to 10 years in prison. The letter asks the Justice Department’s inspector general to determine whether Pirro’s office recalled the witness “to manufacture a damages figure unsupported by the evidence.” “Ultimately, the government conceded that it had no proof of any damage at all, thus undermining the basis for any criminal charge,” the lawyers wrote.
It’s all about the cameras, and they didn’t have the piece of liner because he hadn’t done anything!
“[T]he prosecutors possessed written documentation that Mr. Hearn did not and could not have caused $1,000 of damage to the Reflecting Pool. Nevertheless, they sought and obtained an indictment the very next day,” the letter says. “The record reflects an indictment obtained through unusual haste and a prosecution shaped from the outset by political pressure and built on an inadequate investigation,” the lawyers wrote.
Here comes the judge!
[Judge] Edelman pointed to Trump’s pressure on Oct. 1, when he dismissed the case with prejudice, meaning prosecutors can never bring it again, CBS News reported. Pirro’s office had asked to keep that option open, the letter says.
Nope! Sorry not sorry, Jeanine! This was one gigantic fail on her part. It’s amazing she got anything to happen as it did. She’s facing possible misconduct charges from the DoJ and nothing will happen to her because the DoJ is all Trump all the time. Imagine what she could do if she put that amount of effort into catching and prosecuting an actual criminal! There is a lot more information in the Raw Story article, so please do take a few moments to read it. Goodnight.
Friends, I know everybody begs you for money. I promise you that, of all the outlets bugging you for spare change, we are the smallest and the hardest-working. We’re a bunch of old, disabled people, except for one writer in his mid-50s. But the rest of us are in our sixties and seventies, and this is a labor of love. All we’re asking for is the ability to continue our quest to tell the truth about Trump and help ensure democracy survives. If you can help, please do. Thank you. Ursula
