This is coming from senior Republicans. Paxton is doing so badly that they are wondering if he wants to lose in his campaign against James Talarico. Far be it from us to complain, because it would give us a Senate Democrat in Texas, but why are they coming up with this strange theory? Well, here’s something to consider, and stay with me on this. Paxton wants to lose because he’s out of his depth to try and be a Senator. It’s one thing to work in a state. It’s a whole other thing to work for the country. Paxton is not that smart. We know this, and it’s easy to figure out simply from the various scandals that have come out into the open.
Yes, he would have been busted eventually, but actual thinking suggests he didn’t plan his actions very well. Now, the affairs are something he ought not have been doing. That’s obvious. And that’s plain stupid. Don’t do that. Affairs will always be found out. And his wife is divorcing him (how did she stand him in the first place? Ew) on “biblical grounds”, which is ridiculously vague. It could cover any number of things. Perhaps she’s doing one last nice thing for her husband before she leaves him, but it’s still a “wait, what exactly is the real reason?” Or she doesn’t want to turn any uglier than it already is and to keep the rest out of the spotlight. But these are just affairs. They happen all the time to many different people.
Then there’s the fact that he was impeached. This is something we want to happen to Hegseth, but that’s for another time. Paxton’s was for allegations of bribery, abuse of public trust, and corruption related to his relationship with a real estate donor. Oops. This is where the brains come in. He likely thought he’d never be caught. If he had put some thought into it, he should have realized that something like this is *going to* be found out. It isn’t possible for this to stay hidden. It may have flown under the radar for a while, but not forever, as Kenny Paxton found out.
Yes, there is some arrogance on the part of this writer, but geez, those are serious charges for someone in a public office. Yes, there are worse things like murder, but that isn’t relevant in this particular case. Bribery and corruption are quite bad enough. Abuse of public trust is the icing on the cake. Oh, and when whistleblowers went to the authorities, Paxton found out and fired them. But just like Trump, the Texas Senate acquitted him, so he was never removed from office.
Remember Paxton running from reporters? Or leaving a town hall early so he doesn’t have to answer a question? He isn’t a particularly good speaker, either. Now he is also backing away from Trump, although it was Trump who helped him win the primary because Trump was mad at John Cornyn. But Paxton would be in over his head in Congress. He knows it, and we know it. Your writer isn’t the only one being snarky and rude.
Respect to Raw Story:
A Republican senator put the stakes bluntly. “It’s a five-alarm fire, no doubt,” the senator said. “Can we put it out? I hope so.” A Republican strategist in Texas was even more pessimistic about the party’s prospects against Democratic nominee James Talarico. “This is a slow-moving car crash that we’re witnessing right now,” the strategist said. “And there’s a 75 percent chance that the ultimate result here will be catastrophic from a GOP Senate majority standpoint.”
We hope so! Talarico in the Senate would really be something. And having a *Democrat* coming out of Texas will make Trump lose his tiny little mind. Paxton has a couple of problems going on here. He has a sordid background; he’s not exactly smart, and he’s attached to Trump at the hip, and Trump is toxic. Let’s hope Paxton keeps doing everything wrong. Time will tell.
Friends, I know everybody begs you for money. I promise you that, of all the outlets bugging you for spare change, we are the smallest and the hardest-working. We’re a bunch of old, disabled people, except for one writer in his mid-50s. But the rest of us are in our sixties and seventies, and this is a labor of love. All we’re asking for is the ability to continue our quest to tell the truth about Trump and help ensure democracy survives. If you can help, please do. Thank you. Ursula

I doubt that Paxton really wants to lose because he can’t handle Senatorial duties. There are too many current Senators who can’t handle their duties, but still keep getting re-elected. Paxton thinks he has a chance to win because: 1. he has always skated through problems before, just like Trump, and he thinks he’s the Darling of Fate; 2. he has great confidence that the polls are wrong and there are enough racists and die-hard Republican dupes in Texas to pull him through. Pollster G. Elliott Morris just posted an article about voters who refuse to respond to surveys: he says they skew Republican enough to put most congressional elections into doubt, despite polls that are favorable to Democratic congressional and gubernatorial candidates. If there were any justice in American politics, Talarico would sweep to victory, but I think I’ll postpone opening my celebratory bottle of champagne until November 4…
