For whoever had the courage to pull this off, we salute you. There should be cards, letters, and emails of appreciation sent to them. Trump was scorched on Wednesday, and he was frozen at the same time. Someone has a wicked sense of humor, and hopefully you will see why by the time you finish reading this column. May I do it justice.
A certain network cut away from Trump’s blathering and did not go back. They spoke with their own analysts. Then they went on with other programming. That’s cold. Shouldn’t we all be paying close attention to what Our President is saying? … didn’t think so. Me either. It’s almost a sure bet that he would say the same things he always says (although there was no mention of electric sharks or Hannibal Lecter).
CNN decided enough was enough. They stayed online with the speech for a few minutes, then stepped away to their analysts, and then to former NYC Mayor Bill de Blasio, and then to AI. This had to be more interesting than Trump. Since Trump says the same things All The Time (you know he had to have slipped at least once and boasted about the ballroom). Bad idea. He still doesn’t understand how tone deaf he is when talking about such things while the people of America are struggling.
My regards to Raw Story:
The network abruptly cut away as the president continued to ramble from topic to topic, then turned to its analysts to cover the event on its own terms. During the speech, Trump made a number of wild claims to the audience. Among other things, he asked voters to help him “finish the job” and “pretend I’m on the ballot” in November; said a Republican victory would mean America would “leave the world in our dust for generations”; and falsely claimed that Democrats are now “actually admitting” he won the 2020 presidential election, which he did not.
That “admitting” link will take you to a post on Xitter, and if you go look, tell me Trump doesn’t look like he’s asleep when he’s talking. Many congratulations to CNN for saying “Nope”. If only all networks were this brave. We know Bari Weiss wouldn’t do it.
Friends, I know everybody begs you for money. I promise you that, of all the outlets bugging you for spare change, we are the smallest and the hardest-working. We’re a bunch of old, disabled people, except for one writer in his mid-50s. But the rest of us are in our sixties and seventies, and this is a labor of love. All we’re asking for is the ability to continue our quest to tell the truth about Trump and help ensure democracy survives. If you can help, please do. Thank you. Ursula
