This gets better and better. Trump keeps trying to have people prosecuted for ridiculous things. The DoJ has taken up the mantle of Trump’s Revenge Tour™. The reasons are ridiculous and getting more so. Today we’re discussing very pretty seashells in a pattern that said “86 47”. That does not mean what the DoJ thinks it means.
86 is a slang term, not a notification to go knock off someone. The simplest one is that when something needs to go in the trash, you 86 it. In this instance, it could be a call to initiate violence, but that means nothing about the person using the term. Or the seashells picture to bump off Trump. The ordinary meaning of “86” is not “to kill”, but “killed in action”. This whole thing is ridiculous for everyone, but Trump wants Comey prosecuted.
With appreciation for Raw Story:
In a Tuesday court filing, Comey’s attorneys contended that the Trump administration’s case against him cannot survive its own legal theory. The Department of Justice is accusing Comey of threatening President Donald Trump after he posted a photo showing seashells arranged to read “86 47.” “On the actual question before the Court, the government has little to offer,” Comey’s lawyers wrote. “A call for others to commit violence can only be incitement—which the indictment does not charge.” “The government’s attempt to prosecute an incitement case through a threats indictment violates settled law,” Comey’s lawyers wrote. “The indictment must be dismissed.”
Turnabout is fair play. Comey’s legal counsel is showing the DoJ is trying to prosecute one thing when it’s completely different. Comey has all sorts of experience in his background, and it’s safe to conclude he has some damn good lawyers. Not that this has or will happen – they could do it at no charge just to fight back against Trump. The thought of clobbering Trump and the DoJ, Trump’s personal attack force, brings glee to our faces.
It’s frustrating to watch all of this happening because Trump wanted to take his toys and go home. He detests the word no. He detests being restrained. All this petty nonsense is an insult to America. There are much better things to do than to find the flimsiest reason to bring someone up on charges. It wastes time and money, but since it’s not *his* time or money, it doesn’t matter. Trump needs to get over it. But as long as he can make it look like he’s being persecuted, it’s never going to stop.
It’s about seashells. Very pretty seashells. They didn’t mean to kill Trump. They said 86 47, yes, but it wasn’t Comey who put them there. If we don’t know who put them there, we have no idea if anything was actually meant. Holy cow, Donnie. Get over yourself.
Friends, I know everybody begs you for money. I promise you that, of all the outlets bugging you for spare change, we are the smallest and the hardest-working. We’re a bunch of old, disabled people, except for one writer in his mid-50s. But the rest of us are in our sixties and seventies, and this is a labor of love. All we’re asking for is the ability to continue our quest to tell the truth about Trump and help ensure democracy survives. If you can help, please do. Thank you. Ursula
