Aren’t you thrilled? We haven’t seen this happen very often, so it may be a Big Deal. Or it could actually just be a slap on the wrist. It’s unlikely that this will have any follow-up. It never does. What is the point of such a thing? To try and embarrass someone in front of the world? And will they actually care? Let’s take a look at the story. We’ll start early with our quotes, thanks to Raw Story:
The House overwhelmingly voted Tuesday to censure Rep. Chuck Edwards (R-NC) after an ethics investigation found that he engaged in “persistent unprofessional and inappropriate conduct towards two young female staffers,” according to an NBC News report. The resolution passed 413-2, with Edwards and Rep. Ralph Norman (R-SC) casting the only opposing votes. “The resolution is a formal rebuke of Edwards, who is in his second term, but does not force him out of office,” the report said. “After the vote, Edwards was required to stand in the well of the House chamber, before his colleagues, as Speaker Mike Johnson, R-La., read the resolution aloud.”
Yup. Nothing more is going to happen. He had to stand in front of the entire House to be told Naughty, naughty. That’s not going to do too much for the ladies he accosted. He’s still going to be around and, if they haven’t left yet, will have to continue to dodge him til his term finishes. That’s going to be a joy.
We have yet to see much of anything for the guys who are caught at the various levels of sexual harassment and abuse. It’s hard to stand up and talk about it, especially if you are facing the person who did it. Almost any female can tell you about this. Very occasionally, it’s as easy as saying no. Other times, it’s worse. *Much* worse.
Why is the good ol’ boys’ network still in such prominence? Sure, we do have ladies in Congress, a few of whom don’t belong there (see: Nancy Mace) and a bunch who are smarter than most of the men. And of course, there are lady milquetoasts, too. No guts, no glory, no achievements.
There is no balance anywhere between men and women. Someday people will actually listen when a lady talks about what happened. The downside is that something rarely happens to men because of their actions. But this is not going into that very touchy subject. Edwards has been censured. Who cares?
Friends, I know everybody begs you for money. I promise you that, of all the outlets bugging you for spare change, we are the smallest and the hardest-working.
