This gem of an idea came from our ‘president ‘. He may have been thinking about helping Republicans. Or he may want to get out there where he’ll be loved and adored, if many people come. The jury is still out on that one. He’ll probably get *some*, but not as many as he would because football opens. There are those of us who don’t care about football, but that doesn’t mean we’ll go, either. As a matter of fact, even if everything was paid for on our behalf, nahhh, let’s not.
This is a really bad idea. It’s far too close to midterms, when people are really ramping up, getting out and about- town halls, or meet-and-greets, anything they can do to reach out to the constituents. The money is better spent elsewhere, not at a convention. Everyone has heard Vance and Trump jabber quite enough; thank you. There are other ways to “watch”.
There are quite a few Republicans who cite scheduling issues or won’t commit one way or another to going. Trump’s influence is not a ray of light. It’s toxic, even though he’s begging people to pretend he’s on the ballot so they go out and vote. It’s not going to work because of the state of our country, Iran, and the rabidly poor treatment of not only illegal immigrants, but US citizens. It’s become very plain that Trump has made one helluva mess and is not willing to clean it up. He’s more interested in vanity projects and money than doing anything for the country.
The phrase used in the title of the RS article was “quiet quitting”, which is much funnier than it has any right to be. They’re quietly not attending the thing. Horrible timing and expensive, to boot. Why bother? It’s not particularly necessary, and not attractive, either.

GOP candidates in competitive House races told a columnist they don’t know whether they’ll appear at President Donald Trump’s midterm convention because of scheduling conflicts. In a Tuesday column, political commentator Joe Perticone noted a “conveniently timed epidemic of GOP scheduling conflicts” ahead of next week’s midterm convention, which Republican National Committee Chairman Joe Gruters has dubbed “Trumpapalooza.” Perticone spoke with eight different incumbent Republicans running in some of the closest races in the midterms, and none of them confirmed that they planned to attend the event.
Hmmmm. That agrees with our theorizing. And since Trump apparently doesn’t want to have his PACs put money into supporting Republican battles, that’s even less of a reason to go. Strange thought – maybe they don’t care if they win or lose, but they will try. For everything that’s been done to the GOP by Trump, not having to deal with him anymore would be a blessing. And those scheduling conflicts could be very real. After all, they’ve been campaigning since the primaries. This Trumpapalooza was put together on the fly at the last, or nearly last, moment. Republicans have had hints that they might have re-election troubles for months, mostly because of Trump, with ICE’s shenanigans thrown in. They have work to do.
Friends, I know everybody begs you for money. I promise you that, of all the outlets bugging you for spare change, we are the smallest and the hardest-working. We’re a bunch of old, disabled people, except for one writer in his mid-50s. But the rest of us are in our sixties and seventies, and this is a labor of love.
