Some of you may recognize the words in the title. Others may not. And this is in no way political. It was a bad week to be 80 years old. This person isn’t an icon like Dolly was, but an icon nevertheless. He was an actor and a singer. The only problem with being the lead in a long-running, cult-level film is that people don’t see the rest of your talent, and that was a loss.
Tim Curry has passed away, and that’s heartbreaking. He was 80, too. Just about everyone knew of him from The Rocky Horror Picture Show as Dr. Frank N. Furter. He did a fabulous job and obviously had fun being completely over the top, chewing on the scenery for the film. As a side note, Susan Sarandon was also in the movie. He was also in Hunt For Red October. He wasn’t a lead, so it was a double-take when you first saw him. It was marvelous seeing him in something serious. He was also in a couple of other films, like Clue, and he was too, too funny in that one, too!
I did not know he was from the UK. I do now. Amazing what information a search will give you. He did some voice acting for a couple of anime-type movies. There are more movies than I have listed. He also won a number of awards! They include an Emmy Award and nominations for a Grammy Award, two Laurence Olivier Awards, and three Tony Awards.
And he put out a CD, which I own and dig out every couple of months, although one song is on my huge looping music flash drive for the car. It’s called “The Best Of”, but I haven’t been able to locate any others. Mr. Curry had a lot of unexpected talent.
There isn’t nearly as much to be said about Mr. Curry as there is for Dolly Parton. But still, whether or not you are or were a fan, he’ll be missed. Godspeed, Mr. Curry. Thanks for all the years and all the talent.
