For good reason! They are being asked to do things that stretch legality to the breaking point, and possibly beyond. This is not a job. It’s an accomplice, and we know what happens to them after the “work” is done. Why would it be any different this time? Someone is showing their true colors, and they are ugly. With respect for Raw Story:
The U.S. Treasury under Secretary Scott Bessent has seen a “dramatic exodus” of officials in President Donald Trump’s second term, according to a new report. At least four of the seven top Treasury officials departed after disagreements with the White House over “demands to stretch, if not violate, tax law,” NOTUS reported Wednesday.
This is not something we like to see. If people are leaving, that has poor implications. It’s a poor working environment. That much is obvious. There are people who are proud of the job they do. They chose something because they believed in it. And if they didn’t, they changed it. Sometimes you end up hating what you did, or you didn’t feel you were doing well enough with it. Almost all of us have been there. But for something important like Treasury, you don’t want to have turnover like that. And it’s half of them.
The turnover does not account for additional staffing changes in Bessent’s office, where he has had at least three different chiefs of staff since the beginning of the administration. The level of turnover among Treasury’s senior ranks is far higher than that under any other Treasury secretary this century, indicating that even Republican tax officials have resisted Trump’s demands.
Any and all of us would like to be able to not pay taxes. But being told to fiddle with taxes that break the law is completely different. We already know about Trump and taxes. That business with Blanche made us angry. He should pay just like the rest of us have to, except for the gazillionaires, of course. They don’t have to worry one way or another. Nevertheless, that turnover and what we have been told were the reasons are a concern. It makes one wonder what’s going on behind closed doors. And Bessent having had chiefs of staff changed? What’s up with that little tidbit? Something is wrong. Something is definitely wrong.
